except for the auctions I do not believe anyone is marking it up bigtime. I have not seen it above 300 in such a situation.

I have seen them in Austin and San Antonio in legitimate (eg. Mall) game stores for $599 with two games included. No extra controller, no memory card. Just the PS2 and and a couple of games.

I read that the X-Box isn't coming out until october of 2001. But I think I'm gonna wait for it anyway.

Whoo-whee!

I Bought a PS2 @ BestBuy in Overland Park KS on Dec 22 (last Friday). I just happened to be in the store to buy some DVD's, and saw a feeding frenzy near the Video Game area. Quick investigation revealed that staffers were bringing new PS2's, with memory cards and controlers, out from stock. Price was normal retail, $299.00 for the PS2. So I high-tailed it to the back of the store and intercepted a set as it came out. The staffer said they had 200. They were all gone by the time I checked out 10 minutes later. My kids will be very happy this Christmas, especially since I said early on that a PS2 was out of the question!

I can't wait to try it out on the FPTV!

PS2 is completly over-rated right now. I pre-ordered one back in march, picked mine up on Launch, and have only played it a few times since. I do believe it might be a decent product, but I would certainly wouldn't pay over retail for it.

I am still in amazement of my dreamcast with Vga adapter on my 19" Sony FD Trinitron monitor. Now that is gaming!

PS2 might be a little underpowered to go head-to-head with the Xbox. At least what I have seen soo far. But if you have a PS2 definitly get SSX

I'll take your advice and definitely get SSX. The PS2 will never be the ultimate gaming machine, that's a fact. But it offers our family great gaming, along with decent DVD/CD player. Plus backward compatibility for all our PS1 games. Plus S/PDIF digital audio and component video outs. Not a bad value for $300! Can't wait to pry it from my kids hands and try it out on the 106" Diagonal FPTV!
