I'm in a bit a of a pinch here and I could use some advice. I am going to be putting up dry wall in my basement this weekend and I want to do something to help with the sound traveling up through the floor. I have read through a few of the articles that Ted has posted links to but I am a bit out of luck on being able to do a room in a room or even being able to do double sheetrock. Would any type of insulation or rock wool help even a little bit. If so what rating would be best?
I have open trusses that have 18" of space to the bottom of the upstairs floor and a soffet that i have built to do rope lighting for my room. Should the soffet be insulated at all? Here are some photos. Please let me know what you think. And thanks for any help you can provide!

Insulation (cheap, pink stuff) will help. But before proceeding, make sure your recessed cans are all IC rated (In Contact with insulation). The one in the first picture doesn't look like one (check the labeling), the boxed one visible in the last image does look like an IC-rated housing...
