So I finally finished my basement and was able to allocate some money and corner space in the basement for my home cinema "R.A.V.E.N." (aka "Randy's A/V Entertainment Nest"). Due to limited budget and layout constraints, it's not totally ideal but I'm quite happy with it.

Thanks...the sofa is about 9 feet from TV, pretty good for 59" TV screen.

I just upgraded my D.A.S. ("Direct Attached Storage") for OPPO 93 player from "Thermaltake BlacX Duet eSATA & USB Docking Station (ST0014U)" to "Mediasonic ProBox 4 Bay Enclosure with USB 3.0 & eSATA (HF2-SU3S2)". I'm planning on adding more disks to it for backup/redundancy purposes. So far, OPPO likes it...

And yesterday I upgraded my subwoofer from "Paradigm SE Sub" (down-firing, 10" bass driver, 24Hz low-frequency extension, 300W RMS / 900W peak) to bigger and much heavier "Paradigm Studio SUB 12" (front-firing, 12" bass driver, 16Hz low-frequency extension, 1,700W RMS / 3,400W peak). It is still in break-in period but I can already say...WOW!

Just finished watching "Conan the Barbarian (3D)" with my new Paradigm Studio SUB 12 and what I can tell...WOW! This sub is really something, I love it! And it is really a "high-excursion" subwoofer...take a look:

Yesterday I got my "Paradigm Perfect Bass Kit" (a.k.a. PBK) to improve the sound and perform room equalization. I'm quite excited about it!

Looks nice.

What do you think of your ceiling speakers? I need to do something in-ceiling for my rear surrounds kind of like you did there and have been looking for something with a good quality/price ratio.

Is it solipsistic in here, or is it just me?

Thanks, BllDo. As for those in-ceiling speakers - they are not bad at all (Yamaha with swivel tweeters) but I guess this approach is not as good as properly placed surrounds around your seating area and positioned at ear level. However, I couldn't achieve that in my basement. But they certainly give you a pretty good soundstage depth and ambiance...

Thanks, Dradius, I'm very happy with the result. And yes, the whole basement got finished in just two weeks, I was totally amazed with those guys. Three groups of workers (each one specialized in something else) worked in my house daily from 7am till 7pm, including Saturdays. And they had three basements in-progress in different stages at the same time. That's what I'm calling a "streamlined operations".

Very nice room you have there Randy. I came across your video on YouTube while I was researching the Sub 12 (I ended up buying one at the start of last year and bought my second about four weeks ago). Nice to actually see the room that it is in. Damn, those contractors doing the work must've been guns. It would've been great seeing that much progress being made each day.

Thanks, Hades84, for your compliments. I'm really happy with the result - the basement got finished in record time (first I didn't believe them but then, when they started, I could see a progress almost every hour, they were so efficient; 3 highly-specialized teams were taking turns from 7 am till 7 pm and on Saturdays too). And I'm also happy with the equipment I got - including the Paradigm Studio Sub 12. It rocks! I guess two of them would be even better - you tell me! Anyway - enjoy your subs - you got really nice HT room too!
