What would y'all suggest to cover this open entry way? Only thing I can come up with is thick red curtains, but where to find some thick enough to stop any light from coming in.

Go to Joanns fabrics. They sell light blocking fabric that you can sew to one side of the curtain

thanks for the tip! will definitely do this!

How about suggestions on where to place the curtain rod, or how to hang the drapes. I'm thinking hanging the rod on the outside of the room.

Whats the nicest way to handle this? place curtains on both ends? in the doorway itself?

I have a very similar doorway as yours, I used four curtains, two side by side on the outside and another two side by side on the inside, the dual curtains really helps and blocks 99% of the light out of my room. I just realized I dont have any pictures of my entry in my build thread, I will try and take some for you tomorrow. My curtain rods are probably only about two inches above the opening, most important is that you extended the rods long enough on the sides to allow the curtain to overlap the walls enough to not let the light seep through.

Ok here are the pics, sorry about the quality, only had time to use the camera phone. I am happy with the looks vs the cost of installing a nice enough door that I would have wanted.

Curtain holders on the inside only for holding open

Hope this helps, curtain rods are from Lowes and curtains from a local fabric shop.

The ones on the outside are a more durable material and the inside ones are a nice suede.

Great! I noticed you have lots of separate threads with questions. Have you made a build log in the dedicated theatre section? Maybe I missed it.
