Hi all -
After years of piece meal upgrades, we're redoing our entire family room and kitchen in our home... and it makes a perfect time to retire some equipment and start from scratch. It's been years since I've been in the market for speakers, and my receiver has got to be 8-9 years old as well... so I've been out of the loop for a while!
The basics of the room is that it's about a 25x20 space... but an open floor plan so behind the room it continues to an open kitchen area and a dining room.. so it's pretty big. But the living room itself will be the 25x20 space.
For a TV, I'm pretty set on the Panasonic TC-P65ST50. Might go with the 60"... but either or. I've got a P50UT now which will move to another room and I really like it.
Existing equipment which will remain will be a Directv-HD-DVR (3D enabled... but I'm not too concerned about 3D) and at least one gaming system either an XBox or a Wii.
So my biggest concerns are which BR players are the best bang for the buck, and what AV receiver I can get that will be able to handle everything well.
And then the speakers.
I'll be able to make room for a floor standing sub, and I'm going to have shelving built to accommodate a center channel above the TV.
But my issue will be fronts and surround speakers. I don't think I'll have the ability to do standing speakers in the front... they'll have to be able to fit on shelving, or perhaps be wall mounted.
Same goes with the surrounds.
So smaller will be better, but I don't want to skimp on sound or power if possible... because there will be times when we're using the system to fill the larger, open space.
Budget wise? I've been trying to guess at things... but I was thinking $600 for a receiver, $200 for BR, and $1,200 for speakers?
Is that reasonable? Too much, not enough?
Sorry for such an open ended question, but I'm really trying to make sure we do it right... considering I know how long it's been since I last bought speakers. My fronts are probably from the early 90's... so I'm going to call Polk and see if they have a "hall of fame" I can send these to to be on display.
Thanks so much,
Frank
