Attached is the floor plan to my house. I am trying to decide which room would be best suited for a HT. I will choose between the following three rooms and would appreciate anyone's input on which I should choose:
Option 1: Family Room - 1st floor - 19x15 with 19 foot ceilings.
Probably not a great option as it's an open room with tons of natural light. Only thing I like about it is the potential screen size.
Option 2: Game Room - 2nd floor - 14x18 with 9 foot ceilings.
This is the room I want to work. The problem is, it's open on two sides to the 1st floor, so some light comes in from the entry and the family room. I'm also not sure how the sound will be effected since the room is open on two sides.
Option 3: Bedroom 4 - 2nd floor - 11x11 with 9 foot ceilings.
Probably the best option. There is only one small window, so some blackout curtains would take care of the light issue. Sound would more easily be contained. My concern with this room is the size of screen I could achieve. I was hoping for 100" + and I'm not sure I could accomplish this with my maximum throw distance. My wife would also prefer I keep this as a bedroom.
This will be my first HT so I would appreciate any suggestions on which room I should choose. Also what type of projector and screen would do best with each option.
My budget will be around $3,000. I was thinking about a DIY screen (spandex maybe?) that way I can put more money in the projector. I'm also not too concerned with the sound upfront as I will mostly be using this to watch sports and an occasional movie. Speakers and screen can be upgraded in the future.
