Looking to run a 5.1 setup in the family room of the new house. Currently, I'm planning to wall mount the TV, then wall mount the center channel below it with towers to the left and right. Planning to go with satellites for the surround, thinking to place them on small shelves on the wall on each side of the couch. However, because of the door leading to the deck being immediately to the right of the couch, the right surround will have to be mounted on the other side of the door, possibly to the corner, which will be 2 - 2.5 times the distance to the main listening position compared to the left surround.
From what I understand, it is best to positions the speakers as symmetrical position wise as possible. Am I better off mounting them above the couch and point them down?
