So, I have tried both HDMI ports on my TV and 2 different HDMI cables. I initially get a picture on the TV, and then it flashes a box on the screen that says "no source detected". Then, if I switch to one of the other sources, I have no picture at all on the HDMI port that the laptop is connected to, and cannot switch back to it, as the TV doesn't sense anything connected to it.

Any ideas what is going on? Seems like the TV should support 1920x1080, but maybe I should try another resolution, that could be what the problem is. It is the Samsung model EN556000H (I think - the Best Buy Black Friday special)

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know because this is driving me nuts.

Have you tried manually setting your laptop to use both your laptop screen as well as the TV?

You can do this by right clicking on the desktop and selecting "screen resolution" Here you can choose between using your laptop screen, TV screen, or both.
