Well, happy to report that I was able to find new homes for the A9's, A7's, CSiA6 and FXiA4's. The final set of speakers was picked up this morning. Thanks to the F&F sale, I was able to recoup all of my money and pay for the new XV-15se! Funny how things work out.

FedEx tracking is telling me that the new sub arrives tomorrow so hopefully I can run out to my office and pick it up. Needless to say, this guy will be starting off the new year with a bang!

Halfway thru the reno of my basement my (then 5 year old son) came down and looked at me puzzled. "Dad, can the first movie we watch down here be Star Wars?"

He's a chip off the ol' block. I wouldn't have had it any other way. LOL.

yea funny you say that. I was down there the other day just relaxing watching empire strikes back. My boy's came down and started watching with me. They have seen them all but they were pretty little (only 8 and 6 now) back when I watched with them. We were talking about starting from number 1 and watching them all over a few weeks time. Maybe we will start that with the new screen!

I feel like I have read through most of the thread and I'm wondering if I have missed an updated equipment list. Though I have not been a member long on this forum your setup is the closest to what I want for my basement. Hopefully I can find most of your equipment gently used by the time we can get around to transforming our space.

I believe his signature is accurate other than once his second sub shows up he'll need to a x2

I've done a lot of cool things and made a lot of upgrades to make things mo' better in my room...but yesterday absolutely takes the cake. Adding the 2nd XV-15se to the front right has completely BALANCED out my LFE. Tom also sent me a nylon feet stand-off kit so I could remove the baseplate from the 1st XV-15. Now the two subs are identical. In fact, my subs look MUCH smaller now because they are a couple of inches lower (without the baseplate)...which is always good for the WAF! I can also say with certainty that there is absolutely NO difference in sound with or without the baseplate on this particular model.

The average person listening down there would never have noticed that the right/front side of my room was lacking LFE...but now...the balance is just PERFECT. Over a year ago when people were telling me to consider a 2nd sub, I'll be honest, I thought they were nuts. I thought it would just be overkill and that I had better things to spend my money on. I am happy to admit I was DEAD wrong. The addition of this 2nd sub is without a doubt the best "upgrade" I've made to date.

I think it is safe to say that you haven't heard a PSA XV-15se until you've heard TWO of them working together. Regardless of the brand of subwoofer, I'm sure many out there feel the same way.

Shot a couple of quick pics with my cell to show the final location of the subs (that worked best to my ears).

Wow when did you put that post in the middle of your screen. Here I thought all along that you were making improvements to your set up. Oh, now wait just a minute, I get it. There now is so much LFE and house shaking BASS that you had to put in an additional support in for safety sake. :-)

Glad to hear that you are enjoying your new set up. A few things you will NEVER hear anyone say. I have too many golf clubs, too many fishing lures, too many guns, to much ammunition, too much bacon, too much beer (alcohol), too much fuel (unless you are on fire) ((Navy fighter pilot joke)), and TOO MUCH BASS.

Enjoy.

Grats! I can only imagine how that would sound. I have one 12inch sub and it can shake the house pretty decently. 2 15's must be crazy! Some day I may grab another 12 for my room will see

Well, it took me exactly one year to pull the trigger on XV-15 #2 ! I only wish I had done it 11 months ago - LOL. I'll bet you don't last much longer than that either!

American Sniper in IMAX

Might be a bit OT, but I had the greatest theater experience I've EVER had while seeing American Sniper on Tuesday night. Saw it in an IMAX theater. No longer is IMAX known for the size and contour of the screen. THE AUDIO WAS ABSOLUTELY OFF THE HOOK! Our movie theatres are relatively new and I've probably seen 4-5 movies there since they opened. This was the first IMAX film I've seen there and as far as audio goes, it blows the other theaters out of the water. Not just by a little, by a lot. I found myself chuckling several times during the movie during the war scenes over the volume level for gunshots, helicopters, bombs, etc. It's like nothing I've experienced before.

If you have a chance to see it in IMAX, you can't get there fast enough! Phenomenal.

Thanks for the recommendation! I've been wanting to get out to an IMAX and there is one near us. I always say I'm going and never end up finding time. I do want to see that movie so maybe I'll make the effort to get there! I still haven't seen the last hobbit movie and I'm a big fan of those. I wanted to see Interstellar at the IMAX also but never did . I plan to watch a movie at home tonight though! And I'm hoping to watch another one tomorrow night. I'm in need of some HT time! Been away it seems for a while and this week being first week back seemed to have slipped away. I did manage to watch a Hawks game though down there when a buddy came by with a computer that he needed help with. I still have holes to fill and caulk to do on the doors and base boards though!

Annapolis,

Did you have any guide/chart/etc. on what support to provide the granite for your behind-the-seats-bar? I'm building one for 3 chairs about 80" long and wanted to see how many middle supports I had to install. I'm thinking about doing nothing in the middle or 2 corbals so a support isn't in the middle of the center chair. Thanks.

Yea I would love a zero edge SI screen too!!! But man they are not cheap! And I don't really think I'd need a black diamond as I don't really have ambient light other then leaving a few can's on for sports. Also I don't think I could get one of them in the size I'd want down into my basement since I have a 90 degree turn at the top of the stairs. and again not to mention the cost of a 130 ish inch one !

I played around with the idea of creating my own LED back lighting behind my screen. It would be easy to do. I have power behind it already so all I'd need to do is build a shallow wood frame for the lighting to go on and sit back behind the actual frame of the screen. then use led tape light. you can get them with remotes or just buy a little remote from the hardware store. I have one for the piece of tape light I put behind my jukebox.

Thanks GEC. I saw that and am stealing several of the designs. Right now I'm contemplating between full flat top or putting a little ledge around it to spills, etc. I was curious of Annapolis' since he has a lally pole running through it and a pretty similar setup to mine. He also discussed the ideal width per chair, I think it was 25 inches per seat or more.

Yea I still have that all in the back of my head. I don't know when I'll have the proper furniture in my room so I'm not going to build anything until I do so I know exactly what I have to work with. Good luck with your build!

BasementHT5,

Man, I had to go back in the archives for these photos! As you can see, I used 4 CounterBalance plates spaced evenly throughout the space (I think these photos may also be in my thread somewhere...not sure what page or post #):

Any granite or countertop store will be able to get these for you...probably cheaper than you can find them online. I actually let the countertop people tell me what size to get so that I would have adequate support for the weight of the granite. I was not able to find a guide so to speak. However, if I were you, I would put down no less than 3 CounterBalance support plates just to be safe. Covering that much distance would be risky with just two plates...but again...it all depends on the weight of the countertop.

Here is a link to the CounterBalance plates:

http://www.counterbalanceshop.com/co...5-x-11-77.html

PM me if you have any other questions...I'd be happy to help out.

Toby

Behind my bar, I had a total of 96" of space to work with - width wise - for chairs. |OOOO| This means that I had 4" between all 4 chairs and 4" between each end chair and the side structure/wing of the bar. My chairs are 19" wide.

When I have 4 people sitting at the bar, there is PLENTY of elbow room...you are not too close to the person next to you. It really couldn't have worked out better. Hope this helps.

I have a landing at the bottom of my (straight) stairs that splits off in both directions. If I ever got serious about upgrading my screen and decided to get something that is already assembled, I'd have to rig up a couple of pieces of plywood that size to determine if I could even make the turn.

Watched Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix tonight with my daughter (she is reading the series right now and we watch each on BR as she finishes each book). I've never read the books or seen any of the movies until now. I gotta say, it's not a bad series. After the kiddos went to bed, Dad finally got to watch Captain America:Winter Soldier. What a great flick and SUPERB for LFE!!! The dual subs were working OT tonight. I can't say enough about the improvement.

Great thread and awesome setup!

I have a quick question for the OP. I am torn between using A5/A6 for the LCR or the 265RT/255C. I will be using the 65RT for the rears for either option. My media room will be on the 3rd floor and the walls are insulated, so I'm a little concerned about how to install these things. Did you do any sort of enclosures for your in-walls setup, especially with exterior/insulated walls?

Thanks!

Funny you mention the Harry Potter series. my kids never watched any of them either. Were going to Disney and Universal in April and our neighbor and also friend is a teacher and huge harry potter fan. We started to watch them all as they have a big harry potter thing at universal studios. Last weekend she and her family came over both Friday and Saturday night and we watched the 1st and 2nd movies. I'm hoping to watch the 3rd this weekend. The boy's are really liking them! I've seen most of them but it's been a while and I don't think i've seen them all. Looking forward to watching the rest of them.

I gotta say, the HP series is pretty entertaining. I never read any of the books but I promised by daughter that we would watch them as she finished reading them. We just watched Deathly Hallows Part I last weekend and we are watching Part II this wknd (she finished reading the book earlier this week).

I just bought my 6 year-old son Connor the entire Transformers series on BR. Got the green light from my wife for him to watch. I watched the first two (for the first time) on a flight to CO last month but I held off on DOTM and AOD until I could watch them with him. I was absolutely floored by how GREAT the first two Transformers were. I was more of a Star Wars guy growing up and I was just a little too old to get into Transformers when they became popular. So where the heck have I been living since 2007? Under a rock?

I cannot tell you how much more I appreciate LFE when Megan Fox is on the screen. WOW, what a stunner.

Yea transormers are cool. Like you I was more of a star wars guy when I was a kid too. But I like the moives. Personally I like the last one better then the first few. I'm not a big fan of Shia Labeouf that much. But I do like Megan Fox!

I'm sitting in an air port in Syracuse NY atm waiting for my flight back home! Been here all week. Sucks being on the road these days! Plan to go home and watch the Blackhawks game tonight and down 12 or so beers! Then got good friends coming over tomorrow with their kids for Vday. Plan to watch How to Train your Dragon 2 with the kiddos then something later for the adults! Can't wait to hang out with friends down there!

Take Care!

Last weekend I watched the first Transformers with my son (and surprisingly my daughter) and they are both HOOKED! Needless to say they are chomping at the bit to watch the Revenge of the Fallen so we'll do that when I return from FL early next week. I am really looking fwd to watching DOTM and AOE with them because I have not seen them yet either.

There is nothing, and I mean NOTHING, better than the feeling of walking down into my media room with my kids (with blankets, food, etc.) and throwing down and enjoying a movie. So cool to see the joy it brings to them - and of course I am like a kid in a candy store each and every time. My kids will remember these memories forever. THAT is the VERY reason why I built this room!

Curious to know everyone's thoughts on Big Hero 6? I saw it in the theater with my kids a while back and I thought it was the best animated movie I've ever seen. Hands down. The kids had me order them a copy so it arrives from Amazon the day it is released on BR!

I hear ya! I feel the same way going down to watch a movie with the boys. I am a kid in a candy store. They love it but I think it makes me even more happy just knowing that were creating some awesome memories that they will remember the rest of their lives! I didn't see Big hero 6 in the theaters so I'm looking forward to that one myself. The kids saw it and really liked it though. I'm looking forward to watching that in the theater for sure! Whats funny is some of their buddies come over and are like "ehh let's go play xbox" but then some come over who's parents don't even have a flat panel tv and they are blown away!

My Niece and nephew are coming to stay the night with us Saturday. They are a little younger then my boys and my niece is a big frozen fan. My 8 year old has a playoff hockey game at 5:00pm but I promised her after the game we'd come home and have a Frozen night. She's excited to watch it in the theater! My boy's on the other hand think they are going to be able to skip it and play Xbox but they are sorely mistaken

Maybe Friday night I can get the boys to watch a starwars movie with me. We haven't sat down to watch any of those yet from start to finish.
