Help with 3.1 system.recommendation's needed

Hello to all. (New registration) (First time posting)

Please help. I am looking to achieve better sound from my TV. (42” Panasonic Plasma) this TV is in a regular sized bed room.

I cannot run wires for surround sound so I am thinking two speakers’ floor standing or bookshelf, whatever is recommended. A center channel speaker, A receiver and a subwoofer.

Moderately priced

I am Open to any suggestions and recommendations.
Are there any speakers that give somewhat of a surround sound?

Will 2 front speakers and a center channel speaker provide any effects, ambiance, the soundtrack, etc. of surround sound . I am not expecting true surround sound from 3 speakers. Maybe just a semblance, similar to surround sound.

I am hoping for the best setup that can be found for a good price. (need help)

I am hoping to get about 3 recommendations for each:

2 front speakers:
A center channel speaker
A sub-woofer
A receiver
My budget is around $800.00 a little more if needed.
I am ok with refurbished product.

I will appreciate all recommendations, suggestions, advice.

Thank You, alexander33

Hello and welcome.

I think that you are smart that if you are on a limited budget get the best you can and then build from there.

I will not give you "specific" recommendations like buy this, this and this which will get you to the $$$$ you want to spend.

I will however "name drop" to some places you want to visit.

HSU, SVS, Ascend,Axiom, Aperion, Rythmik, Epik, Lava Subs, Newegg, Onecall, Vann's.

These are just a few places to get started looking for things.

I would stay away from the HTiB type of units if you want to make a system you can grow with.

Newegg is a great place to score a receiver. They usually have good sales, closeouts, and refurbs.

For $800.00 or a little more you will have a great front three and sub to build on. Good luck.

Ok here are my picks if I had $800.00 to spend or close to $800.00

Receiver Onkyo TX-NR414 Amazon $238.00 free shipping.
Speakers Ascend CBM-170 SE LCR $458.00 plus $52.00 shipping
Lava subs 10" sub $245.99 free shipping.

Total 993.99

I tried to come up with some other combos to get you closer to $800.00 but there were too many compromises to make IMO. I'm sure there are many out there that could do it, but that is what is bad and good about this forum. Everyone has an opinion. Now let me say the reason why I chose the above components is that it allows you to grow when you are ready without starting from scratch again. The sub is cheap enough to get you started but will be a good performer in a "better" system. The Ascend speakers can become your surrounds and you can upgrade to the Ascend 340 SE's up front. The only limitation is the receiver is 5.1, but I was trying to stay close to your price point.

Hope this helps.

RTROSE,

Thank you so much sir for your recommendations. You have been a great help.
You did not mention a center channel speaker is it not necessary to have one?
I really appreciate your help.
Thanks again,
alexander

I did mention the center, I just disguised it with my fancy talk. LCR = Left, Center, Right. The price includes all three. I am an advocate of three speakers across the front, as the center us usually the "weakest link" in the front three. With the three Ascends there will not be any "weak link". wink.gif

You are very welcome, glad I could help.

Yeah, Ascend's website is not the most easily navigated. Here is a LINK to the page. Put in the the 170 for the main and center speaker and then hit calculate. That should give your the price. If you purchase I would call vs. place online. Only because they are such a great place to deal with.

Hope this helps.
