I bought this house which had a flat panel over the fireplace (yes, I know and recognize the poor choice for a/v use this is however I please ask ya'll to focus on the question to follow.

There are residual plastic expansion anchors in the stone veneer (see pics).

TV to mount is a 65" LED Samsung, weight is 55 lbs.

My question is, what are these if I were to replace them?

Should I use a different expansion anchor instead, ie a toggle type anchor?

Thank you.

*One picture shows plywood in background to demonstrate that it's a veneer stone type of setup*

Hard to tell what it is from the pictures. Looks to me like it might be some kind of toggle that uses plastic straps to position.

Whatever you use, it needs to grip something other than the veneer. Otherwise, the only thing keeping your TV on the wall will be a little grout and mastic. If there is a stud behind the mounting point, you can just use a lag screw. If there is no stud, a toggle bolt will do the job. A lot of folks seem to like Toggler Snaptoggle anchors.

Those are Snap Toggles. get a 3" or so 3/16" 24 TPI or 1/4-20 screw and you're good to go. You can probably shine a light into the anchor and see the steel bar back there.
EDIT: If the embedded vid won't work, here's a link:
