After recently joining this website to acquire information about home theater equipment, figured I'd share my project.

This basement renovation started back in march, and is about 70% done.

Here's how it looked from the start:

image.jpeg

Got everything cleaned up and started with a clean slate, removed all the crap bat insulation that came with the home
image1.jpeg

Got some drylock on the walls to prevent any further moisture from potentially ever coming in
image2.jpeg

Installed 2" foam board sheathing for quality insulation
image3.jpeg

Started framing
image4.jpeg

Designed the bar from IKEA online software (where I purchased the cabinets at for the bar)
image5.jpeg

Got the rest of the framing done along with adding insulation in the ceiling, and walls around the furnace for sound damping
image7.jpeg

Got drywall done (this took forever with help of friends)
image8.jpeg

Hardcoat on all walls/ceiling completed (only part I paid "professionals" to do - I did not have experience doing this and wanted it to be pefect)

image9.jpeg

Main flooring goes in (fake laminate that is scratch proof/much warmer to walk on in the basement than real wood or tile).

This is where my main screen will be. I purchased a 64" 8500 series plasma for my wife to watch her daily TV. I will be building another soffit across the top of this located to hide a 110" SI G4 series recessed screen, with a Sony 50HW projector smile.gif

image10.jpeg

Bar area mostly complete with IKEA cabinets, and two mini-fridges. I am waiting on granite to be cut, then I will be installing more tile:
image11.jpeg

So there it is so far, I will be posting updates as they happen. I work full time, while earning my masters degree, so I only have a few hours on the weekend to work on the project, so it slowly is coming along.

I wanted stadium seating, but of course the Mrs. shot that down. So we got two lay-z-boy recliners coming, along with a couch that you can recline on....all their "power series"

You've made some great progress so far and I like how it's coming along, it looks like you're gaining considerable living space with this basement build. Looking forward to more updates!

Got some electronics dry fitted. In the bar is a 32" Samsung 5500 series LED.

Sitting in the living area is a 64" 8500 Samsung Plasma......this is for my wife, a 110" G4 motorized will be installed later down the road for me.

Furniture got delivered, and got the one pole support wrapped....

Think I should get a third recliner? My wife says no, but I think I could fit a third one.

I think it just depends on how many people you expect to use it. Of course you really can't have too much seating but it's a waste of money if nobody is ever there to use it. On the flip side you can buy now and be guaranteed it will match, whereas down the road it may be hard to locate the same furniture.

I don't have more than a couple people over but a few times a year, right now I only have seating for 4 but would eventually like more for those rare situations like Christmas when I have my whole family over.

Agree with this. Also think about what other available seating you have. I see the sofa of to the side so obviously you at least have that.

My room for example only has 4 theater chairs but there is seating for twelve in the room. Behind the theater seats we have a pub table with two chairs. Further behind that is the bar which has two stools that swivel. Then off the the side we have a poker table with four chairs on wheels that also swivel. It is normally just my wife and I with the kids down there occasionally and my brother and his girlfriend being te most frequent guests so te four seats is usually enough. Times like the final four, UFC, football though make the extra seats worth having.

Sorry for the delay, been busy trying to get some outdoor projects done with the nice weather we have been having.

Got a "test" bar stool in so the wifey could see it before we ordered more, and she loves it. Just cant decide if we should order 6 or 8 bar stools. We originally thought 6, but I think we could fit 8.....not sure which yet how many we will put in.

Also, I was thinking of keeping the two recliners, and adding another bar top w/ 4 bar stools behind the recliners for more seating!

I've thought about a similar configuration using a row of seating and then bar height long table with bar chairs behind it, certainly interested to see if you try it as I've only seen a few like that and they were in dedicated purpose built theaters.

It's looking really nice, I like it. What are the dimensions of your bar? I am thinking of doing a similar layout for mine.

The bar is about 8' on the side w/ the pole, and about 7' on on the run. The counters are 22" deep (that includes a 10" overhang for your legs)

Got some of the tile started in the bathroom

And got some samples in for my fireplace, these should look familiar Kal smile.gif

That bathroom is the best nearby accessory you can buy. I didn't have one near my old house's dedicated theater. Nice work here. And nice choices.
