Hello one and all,

I am interested in setting up a 7.1 channel HT system. I don't think I have the space for the back surrounds as the couch is hugging the wall. But I am interested in adding height speakers to normal 5.1 setting and make it a 7.1 ch system.

What should I look for in a receiver that will allow me to do this?

You need an AVR which has PL IIz

I have heights in my setup, but I find them pretty myeh... I'm not sure I would do it again.

Thanks for the info!

You have a pretty neat set-up... what speakers you have there?

Thanks. I have an all energy RC setup, except for the heights which are Energy CR-10's. The are a bipole/dipole surround, meant for regular surround duty, but I really wanted a speaker that mounted flush to the walls. The CR-10 works well for me, as you can mount them vertically with main driver pointing down on an angle and sonically they match pretty closely to my RC's.

For front heights, most people recommend a bookshelf on a mount that you can point directly at your seating area.

You can see mine a bit better here:

Thanks,

I am chucking the heights for wides.

As you said earlier, heights do not add too much to the sound stage. I found this from Audessey, cnet forums too.
