I am new to this forum! I used to sell HT at Best Buy, and during my time there I purchased 2 Def Tech Pro Cinema 1000's for my L and R channels, A Pro Center 1000 for the center channel, I had 2 Bose cubes for the rears, and got a good deal on a Sony 12'' standalone subwoofer. All of this is driven by a Pioneer Elite VSX-21txh as the receiver.

I am now further in my career and have a home, and am interested in upgrading our HT set up slowly. Here is my dilemma...

Do I purchase a new Pioneer Elite receiver - Either the SC-61,63 or 71, or Floor-Standing Def Tech Towers for the Land R channels? I am considering the Def Tech 8020's with the built in subs.

My current receiver is working well, as are the speakers...but I am looking to slowly rebuild my set up overtime. My living room is decently sized and the HT is used for both movies and music.

What are your thoughts?

I would go for the speakers, that's where your going to see and hear a difference. Unless you are missing features you want on the receiver upgrading that wont sound any better.

Speakers - but probably the sub more than anything else now. And I'd rather stick with bookshelves like the DT SM65 or SM55 than the BP8020s... then upgrade the center as well. What's your budget? What Sony sub do you have?

Check out the DefTech thread in the speaker sub-forum for more info.

My living room budget build: Samsung PN51E530 / Denon AVR1613 / DefTech PC1000 / DefTech PM60 / DefTech ProSub 60 / Dayton Sub1200
