I've been lurking for YEARS and finally got tired of finishing the basement. So, I'm just creating a room upstairs. It is a kids toy room I am slowing going to morph into a movie and game room.
It's a tiny room, about 11x11.
It has a lot of ambient light.
I'm going to do it anyways smile.gif

I started with a BenQ 1070 since the throw fit my room perfectly for the wall width I had available.

I was so excited I just centered it and threw it on the ceiling! There were no studs at projector center, so I had to screw a piece of wood to the joists first. It will eventually get painted.

First show and the kids loved it smile.gif

I'm at 125" on a baby blue wall using the built in projector speaker.

Got one of these from home depot

And hid all the wires using a Hubble box. Now I need to find a nice plate for it.

Thank you for the link!

I picked up a Yamaha RX-V475 today.

I listened to some speakers - PSB, Cerwin Vega, And Paradigm's and the PSB's sounded the best. I'll be going to another store to listen to some Klipsch, Energey, and some others.

I was suprised I didn't like the most expensive ones, nor the ones I thought I would like. I liked the cheaper bookshelf ones!

not sure I would have left a lightswitch on the screen, but results look pretty good.

Displays: Samsung PN64F8500/JVC X35
AVR: Pioneer VSX-1018AH, 5.1 audio
Sources: HTPC(Mediabrowser), PS3, XBOX360, Wii, Sony DVP-CX995V

Agree but wasn't about to move it. I hope to get a screen soon so all will be good.
Seriously I never look at the edge of the screen so I never see it wink.gif

Got some more goodies to play with

But now I'm thinking of returning everything and going in-wall and home made AT screen for a cleaner setup.

Can in-walls be made to sound good?

In walls can, but if you have the time and are handy I would tell you to go DIY. There are some quality in walls out there, but think DIY just absolutely kills anything out there.

Love your wall, looks fantastic.

Also, keep in mind when auditioning speakers that there are TONS of factors that will effect the sound. Placement, orientation, room dimensions, placement of furniture/amenities, sound absorption, soundproofing, door ways......smile.gif I know you already decided, but just throwing that out there....

Keep it rolling

So I returned everything.
After a massive ammount of internet shopping, I decided I might as well go 7.1 and ordered a DENON AVR-E400 7.1

Now I am shopping for a sub and speakers for $700 or less to try and keep the sound under $1k.

I've decided speakers need to be wall mounted, not in-wall, becuase I'm scared everyone keeps saying in-walls sound bad and I can't just move/upgrade the system easily.

Any speaker and sub recommendations?

Thank you!

Step down over the PSB's but I understand your reasoning for the switch.

You using the SLS subwoofer too?

I am still shopping, my choices in order are:

1) Hsu vtf-2
2) Outlet SVS PB12
3) Rythmik LV12R

I unpacked two of the SLS speakers last night and was really surprised at their sturdiness. The stands are real metal too. I hope to hook them up soon... so... busy at work and home...

That stinks! I hope it works out for you, the receiver is really nice.

So after fiddling with speaker placement, I should have researched a bit more. I think 5.1 is better suited for my small room, what do you guys think?
See where the window is, I can't place a speaker there... but I could to the rear of a 5.1 in the corner...

Yeah 5.1 is the better choice.

If your receiver supports Dolby Pro Logic IIz you could try height speakers cool.gif

Well I sent them another email. Gonna be on me to order one as it was an open box item. Which I can't blame them for. Might contact best buy cause their box label said no items missing. Sorry to hear about the sale ending on you. Hopefully it goes back on soon. Can't wait to see your setup when done.

Go to your Best Buy and talk to them. They should just pull the mic from the floor display's box and then properly label that when they sell it as an open box.

Sucks, but I guess I can understand it. 16 year old kid told to 'make sure everything is in that box', I can see where the setup mic might get missed. Now, had it been the remote or manual...

I love my iPhone, but it will never replace my turntable.

Yeah luckily denon responded asked if it was an open box unit. I was honest with them and told them it was. They said normally this would fall on me or best buys responsibility. But for being honest they were sending me one out. Took them forever to reply but they handled the situation great. Very happy with denon at this moment. And love my receiver

Me too!
I haven't even cracked the manual yet, everything is so intuitive it's awesome. Assigning inputs, composite, analog audio, ouputs, etc, is SO easy with this AVR.
My kids love running the audessy, it's like a game to them LOL. I'll have to hide the mic. smile.gif

Sub came!

It is totally awesome. I absolutely love it.

For those with kids, down firing is definitely the way to go. They were drawn toward the woofer and could not resist it - it is like a giant 12" PUSH ME button to kids. So having the woofer hidden on the floor is awesome, and the ports aren't tempting them to fill with crap either. VT2-F a great choice for rooms with kids.

And it sounds so amazing. We watched "Frozen" not even a bass movie, and when the ice monster stops around you could really FEEL IT STOMP AROUND. Nice.

Left to do:

1) move receiver to back of room
2) mount speakers on walls and hide all wires
3) move sub beside couch "near-field". It sounds great where it is, but I just want to clean up the screen wall.

Hid all the wires, got a couch!

Need to clean up the kids desk.

Moved the sub to nearfield right beside the couch. Much better then being on the front wall.

Got a Harmony Ultimate. THIS THING IS AWESOME highly recommended!

And a change in plans: I ordered milliskin White and Grey spandex to make an AT screen and put in-wall HSU speakers to clean up the front wall even more. I hope they sound OK! So soon I won't be watching that lightswitch on the painted wall anymore biggrin.gif
