Materials for metal stud framing should arrive this week. Work to commence likely next week. Framing should take 2-3 days (because I'm not doing it). Here is the rough outline of a 125" fixed 2:35:1 screen. As shown, the bottom tape is 36" from the floor.

Just picked up this Lowell rack off Craigslist for $100. Extremely psyched considering I was going to buy a rack half this size for about $700. They also sold me a network switch and a SurgeX SX 1115-RT surge protector/power conditioner for $125.

LOL! Great find - geez, you've probably got close to $100 in blank plates (MSRP) there! The rack was just thrown in... biggrin.gif

Yea, they take up so much space they just want them gone. They are scuffed in a couple places, but they are otherwise in great shape. I posted in the great deals section...it definitely qualifies.

Drylok on walls today. Humidity peaked at 89% after it went on! It was like the Amazon down there. The fumes were pretty bad...I'm smart enough to not have handled that part myself. I'm surprised the guys that laid down the Drylok recognized me from a walking banana when they were done.

Tomorrow, framing. I've been waffling with ideas for months. Time to make some decisions.

Looks like you have a really nice sized room to work with! I've been working on my build for a while now but just posted the thread for it here: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1535164/basement-bar-rec-room-theater-build

I'm going with a 6"x24" wood look tile from Home Depot for my bar area. http://www.homedepot.com/p/MARAZZI-Montagna-Gunstock-6-in-x-24-in-Glazed-Porcelain-Floor-and-Wall-Tile-14-53-sq-ft-case-ULG4/203600163 I had a pretty bad depression in my concrete slab near the floor drain that I had to level out. You can see the self leveler work I did in my build thread. The stuff really freaked me out because it begins to set in 5-10 minutes, but it really wasn't that hard. You just have to be VERY prepared and read through the directions several times before starting. Having a help is a must too.

Good luck on your build!

Thanks blizzisu.

Had to make a hard choice today...I am really hoping for a 4 seat row and my walls just went from 14'-0" to 13'-8" by not boxing around the ducts.

Pros: Better looking/symmetrical room. No goofy shadows from the recessed lighting hitting the duct box. Can easily run my low voltage wires behind the wall (rack is on the side of the room).

Cons: Planned seating is 120" overall. Room is now 164" making the aisle 22" on either side. Surrounds now even closer to the end seats.

Am I doing the right thing??

Framing is up. Since I have metal studs I need to get some plywood reinforcement to hang everything. Wiring is next. Hope this pace keeps up.

Just dropped $360 at Monoprice. The 40' shipping container with my order should be delivered in a couple days.

Quiet last couple of weeks, but going into 2nd gear Monday morning. Jumping the gun a bit, but made my first speaker cable. Turned out pretty good (better than my photography anyway).

Wife just nixed the urinal in bathroom. She was faced with my idiot friends sharing the toilet or having a urinal next to the toilet. Needless to say, I'll complete the rough in, but no urinal. The dream goes back on the shelf.

...I also included the fish I caught last weekend.

Romex is in. Shipment from Soundproofing Company received.

Rolled the dice on ebay and bought this bad boy. Item described as new in box. Got it for under $3000, but nervous as hell until I receive it. I do work for Ebay/Paypal and I know they are good about protecting their customers so I threw caution to the wind on this one.

Oh, you're going to like that Panamorph unit! Note that you'll need a mounting plate specific to your projector, or you'll need to DIY something. The plates are not cheap, but don't have any of the DIY issues with flex or requiring additional support, etc.

Yea, I'd love to get DIY instructions considering I have a CNC router. I don't suppose Panamorph would give me the vector file

Until this thing arrives and in 1 piece, my excitement is all nerves.

Pulled most of my wire today, but decided to future-proof as best I can and will be wiring for 11.2.4. In the event Atmos catches on, I want to be ready. Whats another 250' of cable and a few backer boxes...

Any potential issues with my low volt wire sleeving through the metal studs? I definitely have them clear of the high voltage wire.

Christmas came early...just picked up the Panamorph UH480 lens from Fedex after officially stealing it off ebay. Very sketchy process (came from Australia...had to fill out forms, make statemets, etc) and wasn't comfortable at all, but alas, it is here.

Brand new in original packaging. The best part is the box also contained the mounting plate, the Chief mount & a motorized sled. All for $3000 American.

I'll be ready for drywall in about a week. Ready to finish this sumbitch.

Work stalled to focus on the adjacent room, but we are going back into the theater room (finally). Below are photos of the screen wall and one of the rack space. Not very neat at the moment, but it will clean up nice.

Backer boxes started and will go up next week along with plywood blocking. With the panamorph gear attached to the projector, I am using 2x4 for blocking here.

Awesome! I got a similar deal from AVScience on a re-badged UH480 that also came with the sled and *a* mounting plate. But the plate that came with it was specific to a projector, and I had to buy the 'correct' plate anyway. Just be prepared for that (don't know what plate you got, and didn't look back to see if you've got a projector already). Those plates are obviously low volume, specialty items and priced, um, accordingly...

Jeff

I haven't physically checked yet if the plate I have will fit. I know I have the AK8Pr0J. I think that is for the JVC, but I cant find any conclusive info on it.

Just checked the plate and it definitely is for the JVC. I need the AK8Pro-S. Crap! I need to find or build a plate. Would rather not build one.

Update: Panamorph doing a swap with me for a good price. Very cool of them to do that.

Drywall going up today. 19 backer boxes in total...13 recessed lights, (4) Atmos speakers and (2) overhead speakers for the bar area.

Going with faux hardwood vinyl flooring for the bar area. This stuff is great. Textured, durable, easy to install, only 1/4" thick and only about $5.00 a sq/ft.

Carpet to be a Masland red pattern (the one on the left).

Yep I plan to use a hardwood vinyl flooring for our bar area as well. This is a sample but it doesn't do it justice. It has a nice rustic rich feel to it when it's installed. My in-laws liked what we had picked out so much they used it in their basement. So I got to see what it will look like and it came out really nice. Congrats on the drywall going up! With any luck I'll have mine started this Saturday.

Soundproofing emergency!!

My drywall guy put up drywall without insulation!

In his defense, the wall is not a foundation/exterior wall. It is decoupled and will have DD/GG.

I am concerned about losing this line of defense...AND I already have the insulation!

Should I tear out the drywall? He didn't put in that much of the wall.

As a builder I would have him remove the drywall. It is only screwed up and not that hard to remove and reinstall after insulation is installed.

I had him remove the drywall. I will be pissed if I cut corners now. A few sheets of drywall and an hour of so of work...problem solved.

Not an earth rattling update, but drywall is just about complete. Mud going on today so paint is next, then flooring.

One photo is a view from what will be behind the bar. I'm really trying to figure out the best way to blacken the ceiling on front of the screen wall and keep it lighter in the bar area. I hope to solve this in the next few days.
