Sadiemax theater build thread

Hi everyone. Ok new house is under contract as is our house to be sold. Will be in the new digs by august 1st and here is my space for HT names for my 7 week old daughter Sadie and my 3 yr old son Max ❤️

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...pszc7isivq.jpg

It's 100% light controlled since the windows are behind this area.

It measures 11.5' from left framed wall to foundation x 15' deep (to first window which will not be in the room after frames off). The ceiling is 7.5' except where hvac is it is 6.5' (plan on pitying soffit around it)

I plan on a 130" AT 2.35 screen using my already purchased panny ae8000

Any thoughts and input will be greatly appreciated as I build this (my first build if any kind) I have lots of help as my father in law builds houses for his living. It will be slow going but immediately I will be building a false wall to hold the speakers and screen

I have all my current equipment in my sig that will be going down there. Thanks for watching!! Exciting times

design time is when you incorporate the soundproofing not when it is done and the wife is screaming at you to turn down the bass! Add cost but really can't fix it later..

Agreed. I have that in mind no doubt. Thanks! I have to research the soundproofing

The plus is this room will be 2 floors away from the bedrooms

How many bodies are you looking to seat?

Brian Fineberg 07-09-2014 04:24 AM

2. Maybe 4. No one watches movies with me very often

Brian Fineberg 07-15-2014 05:19 AM

Getting closer and closer. Going to Florida for 2 weeks then we move in shortly after.

Been reading up on DIY screens etc.

Looking at dazian fabric or spandex not sure yet. Also thought to bite the bullet and buy a elite screen. Not sure yet

Thoughts?

How about a row of three seats with a 8-12" deep baffle wall up front then?

I'd soffit the entire room for symmetry. Could be a very high end space with your modest
seating needs.

Can you explain what a baffle wall is?

I plan on the soffit all around the room. I'm hoping to have a very high end room as this will be my one and only build :) it will be a slowwwwww process but should be fun ( and functional during the journey....I plan on it being fully set up prior I any finishing, and move equipment as necessary....therefore I won't be Ina. Rush to get things done and therefore so them all right)

I'd recommend you explore Nylor's website.

You could keep room volume but it'd likely mean swapping out your front speakers. The upside would be three identical speakers for the RLC
and more room volume.

Otherwise you could do a 2' deep AT space and reuse your speakers.

I'd also use the furnace end of the room as the back wall, so you could recess the projector
into a hush box that would physically be outside the theater space.

Hmmm that's not too bad an idea. Might have to think about this one :)

If it's high end you are aiming for... You get the projector heat
load out of the room and can maintain a low noise floor, to preserve dynamic range.

I'd also consider doing the room in dark, light absorbing finishes. A woven AT screen scatters
light coming off the screen, and you want to capture this light so it doesn't harm the contrast ratio.

You also might want to consider a lighting controller and multiple light sources in different zones.
Lighting is a great way to bring in some WOW factor in a smaller room. You'll also need more lighting
then you'd expect, in a darker room.

And consider a masking solution of some sort.

This is something I would like to base mine on. It's roughly the same size as well

sure is!! the closing keeps getting pushed back...I feel like a kid waiting for december 25th...and it keeps getting told nope next week...nope next week,.hahaha

I am now reading your thread...great stuff!! im looking forward to learning alot, and being able to build this myself (with the help of my FIL he is very skilled and knowledgeable)

:)

gec5741 08-12-2014 11:42 AM

Yea I often feel like in a bad dream and I'm tied to a rope that's keeps pulling me back just as I'm about to grab the prize! Frustrating for sure. but eventually you get things done! I'm at the moment waiting for the drywallers to call me to setup a time for them to come back over and do a final walk through and tell me what i need to go buy for them. also they will then tell me their availability so I can schedule them to come and do the work! So close to maybe having the drywall finally put in! Again with the waiting!

Brian Fineberg 08-13-2014 01:20 PM

So everything was moved out of our sold house (closes tomorrow) and into the new house garage (closes sometime next week hopgully). The builder was nice enough to allow is to do that so we don't have to love twice and pay for storage

Sad to see my Ht in boxes in the garage but will be awesome

Brian Fineberg 08-15-2014 03:06 PM

Should I build my own 2.35 AT screen out of spandex? Or go this way:

Elite Screens 125 Inch 2:35:1 SableFrame Acoustically Transparent Fixed Projector Screen (49"Hx115.2"W)

400$ shipped on amazon

Brian Fineberg 08-20-2014 04:24 AM

so...here is the dilema...

found some great HT recliners on CL for 400$...so the question is..

do i go with the Elite screens and wait on the seating till later in the build

or

buy the recliners and go with the DIY screen?

Sonyad 08-20-2014 11:31 AM

Get the recliners

Brian Fineberg 08-20-2014 03:38 PM

I was leaning the same way. Thanks!!

Brian Fineberg 08-27-2014 05:11 AM

still waiting to close!! gahhhhhhh maybe someday Ill have an house :(

Brian Fineberg 08-28-2014 10:50 AM

here is a crude to scale mockup of what im thinking...the french doors will most likely be nixed due to bad soundproofing properties...can anyone recommend a better free mockup program?

Update: so we have moved everything in the house even though not closed on most likely this week (builder was nice enough to let us do that) bought two ht recliners for 300$ on CL. Also got my at screen material in the mail Saturday. So as soon as we close I will be measuring and building the screen. Hoping for 120" wide 2.35. Not sure the 13-14' ft throw will get it there.

Stay tuned :)http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...psvbwt1jbx.jpg
