Seating distance survey

I'm trying to determine what size screen I should get. For whatever silly reason, I have it in my head that I want a 130"ish 2:35 screen. My dilemma is that the main seating position really can't get much further back than 10'. This puts viewing range at 53.2 degrees which exceeds most paper specs, but I'm looking for in practice input. This might also be a 2:07 CA screen with double masking, but I'd still be looking at 120" wide for 2:35 viewing.

Anyone have a scope screen 10' wide sitting around 10' away?
Or an 8'11" wide (100" diag) 1.78 screen at 10' away?

I understand the implications of seeing the patterns of certain screen materials; I'm just looking for input related to the field of view.

Input appreciated.

And I think I'm gonna have to start posting a build thread...So much helpful responses so far only fair I give back....

I'm 8-9 from a 100 inch screen, 16x9. When I do my dedicated room I want to got 120 or so from 8-9 feet first row. 100 now is big but I'm used to it and want bigger.

Yes, my front row (eyes-to-screen) is just over 9' and I've got a 136" diagonal (125" wide) scope screen. The image is large in the front row, but you don't have to turn your head. Certainly wouldn't go any larger, but as my primary seating is the 2nd row, I didn't want to go any smaller.

The correct answer, though, is to buy the screen last. Get your projector, set it up (even temporarily) and project onto a white wall, sheet, or photographer's backdrop paper at various sizes and test it! The week delay from testing to a delivered screen is trivial.

Very nice, clean, and simple.

I can't wait to start my dedicated room.

I second what JAutor said though. I definatly plan to get my screen last and test on the wall before deciding on what I'm going to go with. But I'm leaning toward 120 - 135 inch screen from around 10-12 feet away. But again I'll shine it on the wall and see first hand what I think then.

Good luck!
