I'm hoping for some help from the experts. We're painting the upstairs of this house and it would be a convenient time to paint downstairs, but I can't decide if I should paint this room darker theater colors or leave it.
It's currently ALL semigloss paint. Look at ceiling reflections. Walls and ceiling of entire house were done semi-gloss by previous owner.
I will be using a projector.
Room is 10'8" at narrow end, 12'2" at wider end where screen will go.
This is likely the end the screen will be:
This is the other end:
UPDATE:
I went with Sherwin Williams flat black for ceiling and SW 7018 Dovetail in eggshell on walls.
I assume the screen is going in the alcove part? If so, I would do the alcove and 5' of the ceiling in black velvet for best contrast. you could do panels on the left and ceiling and a curtain of velvet if you are not going to plug the window permanently. Most reflected light damage to the image comes from the first 5' of of adjacent wall, ceiling and floor surfaces.
I chose to do removable wall treatment since i do not have a dedicated room

That looks awesome! I want your exact ceiling panel in my room! What are the dimensions, how did you construct it, and how did you attach it to the ceiling?
That is a really good idea and your room you show there is ingenious! I've never seen such a versatile setup like that.
I've decided to paint the ceiling flat black and the walls eggshell gray. Once I get the room fairly setup and determine where everything will be I will paint the wall behind the screen flat black or use cloth to cover the wall (or might do an acoustically transparent screen with speakers behind it.
Well, for AT, I think they recommend 3' from back wall to screen but everything we do is a compromise.. so I would assume you could get away with the room you have there between the back wall and opening. Also there is only a couple of AT fabrics that you can sit closer than 11 ft to and not see the weave so be careful if you go that route.
Paint is done, updated original post. Still need to decide which end to put the screen on but I'm leaning heavily toward putting it on the wider end with the bench as a stage. I would paint the wall or some other treatment behind the screen to make that wall black.
Hi, I am in the process of building and wondering if you are happy with the eggshell grey?? I have a black tile drop ceiling so I am curious if you have used the projector yet with that grey and noticed any reflection, glare etc? Thanks alot
I might have to steal that color combo for our basement! Hopefully the wife approves. Did you update the lighting after you painted? The bulbs look brighter. Also, what is your ceiling height?
Looks great. You ran a similar color scheme as I recently did. I went with Sherwin Williams Tricorn black for the ceiling and Peppercorn for the walls with white trim. Looks very similar to yours.
The new color was a great choice. Looks like a beautiful room.
