I am new here, but am looking for a lot of assistance in relationship to a home theater I am building. The details are below:
Basement room 13d x 16w. 9 ft ceilings.
The room will be a dedicated HT with seating to be determined (i suppose I will find the appropriate sub group for that.)
The main use will be sports, movies, and some gaming.
I want to create a space where family members of all age can enjoy themselves.
Here is the equipment I am looking at, but am not tied to any of it.
TV - Sharp LC-70LE660U
Stereo - Denon AVR-x3000 (if i can use this in 5.1 as opposed to 7)
Speakers - Polk Blackstone tl1600
Like I said, I am open to any and all suggestions. My budget for this equipment is as close to $2500 as possible. Thanks in advance.
I don't know. I guess that's why I am here. My thought was the room was small so that a projection tv would be too large for the space. If that's not the case, I would appreciate a recommendation. How are they for gaming? aesthetically, I would prefer a projector.
The Benq W1070/HT1075/W1080ST have low lag times so gaming is good. As someone mentioned, people standing in the lightpath can be an issue for those games like tennis or dance. There are two solutions -- a short throw projector like the W1080ST that will be in front of the standing gamers, and a large screen so people naturally stand further back, and the projector is mounted closer to the ceiling. If your dimensions of 13 "deep" indicate you want the screen on the 16' wall, then I would go with the W1080ST even if stand-up gaming isn't an issue. Otherwise a 13' depth means less than 12' throw and your screen sizes become pretty limited -- the W1070/HT1075 max out at 140" screen size from 12'. If 140" is enough and standup isn't an issue, the the W1070 is usually more forgiving of focus and placement than the 1080ST and it is usually $150 cheaper.
I am going to second the projector suggestion. Lots of folks here have put projectors in similar sized rooms.
Need to ask what sort of gaming? My kids are constantly down there with XBOX. It is fantastic for driving, sports and adventure type games. It is unusable for anything that needs kinect because the screen gets blocked by people standing in front of it. It think in general any game that requires standing and moving won't work well with a projector.
I run a 120" 16x9 screen with eyeballs 11' from the screen. My room is 13x20, but the back is bar and stools. I would be able to duplicate my setup in 12x12.
All 7.1 receivers are designed to work in any lesser configuration. If the channels are turned off, the decoder logic will redirect to the speakers that are present. I won't comment on speakers because those are a very personal and often controversial choice. It might be nice to look toward a real sub in the future, but don't bother with the $200 ones. They won't provide the low bass you need in this setup.
That's pretty tight. Probably an Elite screen and BenQ 1075 is your best bet for video. That might leave you $ 1200.00 for audio. It can be done with very careful shopping.
Jayn, I have a room that is about 15 deep by 10 wide. do you have any pictures of your setup, because it sounds like the exact thing I would love to do. My room is difficult to decide on a design because of the way it is. Hopefully maybe your setup could give me some ideas. Thanks
My room is a little bit smaller than yours, and i was also on a budget, this is what i did:
Vizio 70inch TV around 1000$ last year blackfriday @m@zon
Yamaha RX V675 375$ at new-egg.
Klipsch synergy series F30 - S20 - C20 the all set for just below 700$ at new-egg as well. I did have a sub already.
If you count cables (from @m@zon or Mono-price), Universal remote control Logitech, LED light for behind the TV, painting and accessories, my total is below 2500$.
I use a HTPC with XBMC (Kodi) to stream my video (blueray), music and play some games.
I am happy with my HT room on a budget result.
I'm working on a similar project. My "micro theater" is roughly 11x10 . Because the area has an abundance of ambient lighting, and a big ceiling fan, a projector is out of the question. I'm going with a Vizio 70in, either a Yamaha or Onkyo receiver, a Polk Tl1600 speaker system and an XboxOne console. So far, I think I'm going in the right direction. Trying to decide on either a couple of big recliners or 4 IKEA Poang chairs and ottomans that would fit in such a small area. I'll be following this thread as well. Maybe some advice could be thrown my way as well. Good luck on your build.
I'm going to be following along, I have a 13x15 space I am going to convert to a dedicated HT room. My budget on equipment is about twice that of yours, but if your build comes out ok I might consider just copying. Good luck!
