For aesthetics, we made decision to ceiling mount L,R,SR,SL speakers in 5.1 setup. I have the option on center speaker to put it below TV at about slightly below ear level or ceiling mount it.
Will the setup of ceiling L/R front speakers and ear-level center speaker work or should I just ceiling mount center too?
If the center speaker can be at ear level, the plan is to buy a bar-style center speaker (like Klipsch - Reference Dual 5-1/4" Center-Channel Speaker). My ceiling speakers are going to yamaha nsic800wh.

If you're willing to mount the center speaker on-wall, look at an LCR "speaker bar" instead of in-ceiling speakers for the L/R channels. The speaker bars have three distinct channels in one bar-shaped cabinet. Or, better, place all three on-wall around the display. In-ceiling placement of LCR channels is far from ideal for TV audio.
Is this a retrofit or a pre-wire question? Do yourself a favor and at least wire for the LCR channels near the display, even if you go with in-ceiling speakers so you can change your mind later...
Its a retrofit. The house is pre-wired for 5.1 system in ceiling. I was able to talk the family into OK'ng center speaker to be placed on top of TV stand and L/R in-ceiling.
I don't know how the sound will be if Center is around ear level height with L/R in the ceiling. Any thoughts?
My last reply really should have been longer... "Not great" to have the center at a very different height than the L/R speakers. But in-ceiling placement of the LCRs is also "not great". Which of those two is least-bad is not something I can answer from personal experience. My recommendation would be to find either an LCR speaker bar, or use low-profile on-wall speakers around the display instead. From an aesthetic standpoint, a few things on the wall around the display isn't much different than the huge black box on the wall by itself... And that still has zero impact on the floorplan / footprint. If your family hasn't seen low-profile on-wall speakers, give them a chance.
Yes, that will be the best chance of getting a uniform timbre from the front speakers...
With that large cabinetry I'm not sure what aesthetic concern prevents you from using on-wall L/R speakers, but you've already bought the in-ceiling ones, so I guess that ship sailed...
