Nice eye! Yes, that indeed is a great Blu-Ray disc. Even better was seeing them in person in East Lansing this last summer for the 360 Tour.

My GFs parents use that same background as well. For the longest time I thought that was an explosion/fire in the background. Then one day I got close and realized it's a much more peaceful image of the sunlight on a rockface.

Great room, and great thread! I can't wait until i get a little older and get a more permanent place so I can start construction of a nice home theater like some in here. It stinks that I move about every year. Currently moving into my 5th place in the last 6 years. rolleyes.gif

Here are my before/after shots. The room is 24'-4" x 15'-10" with 8'-1" ceilings. I started with a "finished" basement and added quite a few embellishments.

The day we put an offer on the place in 2011 and January 2013, respectively

More photos and information are here in my thread. Thanks for looking!

Here is my low budget revamp.

Before:

After:

I am still working on the decorating part. Having a curtain made for the window and the large opening to the hallway. I also want to do something with the ceiling, light fixture and add an area rug to the room. I can't do any actual modification to the structure of the room as my wife and I are expanding our family and will quickly outgrow this house. The next house is where the real fun will start. But for now I get ample pleasure out of my little room. smile.gif

My modest Setup:
Panasonic 60ST50
Onkyo NR-616 (no reliability issues yet...fingers remain crossed)
Klipsch F20 Towers, C10 Center and B10 Surrounds
Polk PSW 110 Sub
PS3

I just read through all 22 pages of this thread and my heart is racing and my palms are sweating. You guys are so incredibly awesome.

We are looking to buy a house later this year with the express purpose of building a home theater. Really excited with what I've seen.

Flooded basement was the catalyst although I wanted to upgrade to a dedicated space at some point regardless.

I didn't do anything super-fancy in mine, just finished a room and built a rack, but I'm very happy with the way it's turning out.

Before: Just an unfished basement with some makeshift shelves the previous owner left me. First photo is from January of 2011.

A couple early sketchup drawings I made while coming up with ideas.

I cut and framed a hole in the wall under the stairs to hold some rack rails.

The soffit:

Mudding/taping/texturing:

The equipment rack getting closer to finished.. (is it ever really "done"?)

*
*

Hot pink primer!!

Screen Wall painted: (It's Black Widow)

Here's the same angle as the pink primer picture after the final paint was applied:

*

One of the in-wall surrounds.

*

The framing for the stage:

One taken from the back of the room, and one from the front.

*
*

A couch, a dog, and a projector:

*
*
*

Measured for carpet today. Need a build a computer and get a few more components for the rack an we're ready to go!

It's an Epson Home Cinema 8350 projector. The speakers are a mix of what I had lying around for now..I'll upgrade them as I can. The front left and right are sold old JVC's from an old stereo system. I cannibalized the sound system in my living room upstairs, took the pioneer sub, center, and rears from it. The surrounds are monoprice 6816 in-wall. (and I have to say, for under $90 for the pair, they sound pretty good.)

Nice transformation.

It is weird however that you have most of the seating faced away from the screen. Do you have plans on changing that out or maybe putting a TV on the wall the sectional faces?

"Damn, you can't get black levels like that on your projector!"
