Size= 13.5' W X 15' L X 8' H
1,620 Cubic Feet

Yesterday, on Monday, I purchased a Optoma H31 from projectorpeople. SOLD 4/07

Only 480p, but should be a great for breaking the front projection ice. My 1st time experiencing front projection, in my home at least

I was going to wait until I could save up for a 720p projector, but I was too anxious to experience front projection in my home. Most of my material is 480i anyways. I want 1080p so this should hold me over!

I haven't even designed the room yet! I have plenty of old equipment to replace, but in time I will have a room for Movie Nights.
With your help of course!

My attempt at a panoramic view!

Screen Wall with 92" taped off The extra tape width wise is for a scope screen with the same height!

The TV Niche where I'm thinking of placing my equipment rack! I also want to close off this side of the room and put a door on that wall.

Current Equipment list

AV receiver= Sony HTIB (must be about 10yrs old)

Speakers= L & R are Polk R50's / Center is Polk CSR / Sub is Velodyne

Projector= EPSON 83c

Screen= DIY Blackout Cloth Screen 92"

HD-DVD player= RCA HDV5000

Bluray player= Sony BDP-S370

Universal remote= Harmony 550

Furniture= Sofa set

Well I have a few yards of Black Velvet I got on sale from the local linen shop, about 2 months ago. Know I just have to decide on the size and aspect ratio!

My seating is about 13' away from my screen wall! So I'm thinking a 92" diagonal 16:9 screen should minimize screendoor effect?

Looks like a nice hide-away for movie nights :-)
Make sure you save some money for bass traps and/or absorbtion panels!

Yeah, I'm researching them now. I have lots of reflection in this room. If you stand in the middle of it and clap your hands you can hear a echo! Thanks for the tip!

With a 480p projector? I thought the rule was 2x the width of your screen?

My seating is 156" away. 156/2=78 for the width. 92" screen is 45"x80"!

Well this is just my plan. When the projector gets here, I'll see how big I can go without the screendoor effect creaping up!

Got it Friday around 4pm. Let me say that this projector has far exceeded my expectations. I never knew 480p @ 92" could be so beautiful. 720p & 1080p must be like heaven! I'll post some screens in a minute!

I must admit I was expecting to be disapointed, but boy was I wrong. These are shot at 12', my seating distance. Some are dark because my room is pitch black in the pm, and my camera is on the auto setting. Oh and my screen is a "KB White" wall with a piece of blackout cloth in the middle of the picture. The image is bigger than the sample piece of cloth. Most of the image is on the cloth though. Putting my Blackout cloth screen frame together now. Have to go by the local fabric shop and see if they have any left. Store closing sale! Just in time!

Let me say that the blacks on this dlp are something to see. My first DLP experience & not my last one!

Is there a way to remove my ceiling fan, move the wiring to put a ceiling mounted outlet for a projector?
My ceiling fan has two switches, one for the fan and one for the light.

Better yet can I remove the light kit, keep the fan, and use the light wiring to put in a power outlet?

If you have a link to instructions, possibly with pictures. I'm new to all this.

If you're new to all this, I'd hire an electrician. They aren't that expensive, and are quite a bit safer.

LOL. I'm new, but I'm a do-it-yourselfer. This is a small project, and can't be that difficult.

I really wanted to see how a 92" picture would look in my room. It's plenty. Only thing I'm going to do different is go to 2.35 at the same height. The picture from this is great, don't get me wrong. I guess I want to get the room finished, then get the projector. Yeah I'm looking 1080, just not now. I watched my local KHOU (11) news in HD, great picture. They show some football clips during their "#1 for HD" promo, and I'm ready for football season. Never new 480p could look this good. If It doesn't sell, I'm content with keeping it. Until I can afford a 1080p.

if you're not an electrician, please don't mess with the outlets. it's not like wiring in a car, home currents are very dangerous. shouldn't be very $$ either.

i've been doing car installations for years, and i won't touch anything in my house.

loving my completed home theater. :)

WOW. I just finished "The Pursuit of Happyness". This projector continues to impress me. I'm running 480p out of component with my XA1. This dvd's pq is amazing. I'm content with my 480p projector. Great value I got here with this projector. Which is why I didn't sell it. I can wait for 1080p to come down to my level, then I'll upgrade.

Enjoy!

You have no idea. That's the only reason I watched the movie, in the first place. But I did like the movie. It'll be a slow process, and be very rewarding.

Today I got a great deal on a sofa and love seat, so I bought it for my HT. $100! A couple just moved in together, had to get rid of her furniture. Lucky me! They are big and plush. Should be great, I need some sound absorption in the room.

I was, I've sold it. It was a great image, I need a brighter projector. I didn't have a lense. I use a 92" 16x9 DIY screen.

I'm aiming for a 1080p projector. DLP preferred but not required.

Conn's service tech came out to replace my light engine. I had a blue/purple haze over the bottom left corner of my picture. Gone now, and the PQ appears to be better too. My set was a store display, which meant it was on all day at the store.
Looks like a whole new set now. I've had the TV since Nov 2005. This is why extended warranty's are important. The tech said the part alone was over $1,100.

Pic of haze
