I have yet to watch my set, but I did watch this on DVD earlier this year. If there was significant grain removal it would be noticeable based on what I saw from the DVD. If there is a finer level of grain present on the BD and there was still significant grain removal...dare I say I'd be a little worried to know what this title originally looked like

And I don't think sspears is a "him", but I could be mistaken about that. I thought her name was stacy. But wait, I guess that is a guy's name too? AVS confuses me so at times

According to the Amazon shipping FAQ, you will be refunded the difference if all of the deposit isn't used. If the actual import fees are more than the deposit, you won't be charged the difference (this is for items bought from Amazon only, not from their merchants). There hasn't been any word yet in either of those two threads of someone receiving a refund on the deposit. (There was one account in the RedFlagDeals thread, but that was posted on Oct. 15 and the guy was talking about something he had purchased about a month before. Problem is, the import fees deposit didn't come into effect until Oct. 15.)

Despite the deposit and the poor exchange rate, I still have BoB on pre-order from Amazon.com--only because I had some Amazon.com certificates to use up. I'm not sure what I would have done otherwise. It's still slightly cheaper at Amazon.com, I think, even after factoring in shipping and the above, compared to the current price at Future Slop and Amazon.ca.

Thanks for the info. Looks like my BR buying is going to be heavily curtailed. I've been having the "this isn't really worth it" feeling for a while now (I'm new to buying movies...I never bought a single DVD) and this combined with high shipping costs and this import fee kinda kills it. Waiting for deals in Canada...well, they don't exactly come along very often.

Does anybody know the BD trailer for BoB is up on the net anywhere in HD. I did a google and didn't come up with anything.
I was in Best Buy last night and they showed it, but by the time i made it to the big TVs it was over.

I noticed my local BB was selling it this weekend for a very low price. As low as I have seen here, or lower!

Thought I'd be able to find it out on the shelf somewhere but no go. Stores that carry BD are basically a very short drive to the next one for me so I don't really waste that much money or time looking. It would have been nice but Tuesday is right around the corner.

Unfortunately for Amazon customers, they haven't shipped copies yet and have pre-orders in their "shipping soon" status that will not allow you to cancel them at this point.

I did not make these shots:

This is a screenshot taken from the Blu-ray:

These are 2 screenshots (unfortunately not the same scene) from the HD-DVD:

http://achumpatoxford.com/u/files/2/...1018075229.PNG

http://achumpatoxford.com/u/files/2/...1018075119.PNG

Sorry I cannot find any more comparison shots. Hopefully in time more will be available from others.

I am so glad I got this. It is such a worthwhile upgrade over the SD version in both audio and video. I had a very busy weekend, but I got this set this last friday and watched 3 episodes that very night after my wife and I watched another movie. Was up until nearly 2:00AM watching these and forced myself to go to sleep. Amazing stuff indeed and I think a lot of you who are getting it tomorrow or very soon will be VERY pleased.

Not exactly the same frame (I'm having green box flashing issue with my MPC) but pretty close (Blu-ray on top, HD DVD on bottom from Xylon)

Thanks eric.exe!

Looks like a bit of DNR on the Blu-ray - resulting in a slight colour shift too? Par for the course I guess!

^ DNR on those screenshots looks very, very slight. I received my set today, checked out episode 1. It looks and sounds fantastic,as good as the HD DVDs from what I remember(sold them).

Oddly enough, the JP-HDDVD version looks less compressed (edit: apparently the capture I was looking at was reversed and the opposite is true)
I don't see any additional DNR with the BD, and slight EE is present on both.

The color/contrast shift is interesting. But yes, it does look slight in those caps. I plan on watching this set sometime this week.

i got this set late last week sometime (thank u WHV!).

i concur with the DNR. in 2nd episode: day of days when everyone is running through the fox hole, it is the most noticeable.

i have seen this series while it first aired on HBO in HD, then had it on the HTPC in 1080i, then 1080p HD DVDs (JP) and now this. as u can see from the screencaps, the BD is pretty much awashed in DNR through and through. not EVERY SINGLE SECOND of every frame, but it is so bad, i can see it on my 37" 1080p as well as my 100" 720p front projector.

on the other hand the audio is just too awesome =D. bastogne (sp) just rocks =P

to the edge of eternity and depth of infinity, stupidity knows no bound.

I see more EE as well as DNR in the BD image, but maybe not enough to be evident in full motion.
