Is there quite a bit in this though? I see film grain in other movies, but this was just seems to have more. Is it because this is a "darker" movie?

I'm on a 103" 16:9 screen, sitting under 10 ft away if I remember right.

Low-light situations tend to show more grain. The levels of grain has been discussed earlier in this thread in detail and I would think you could notice more with such a large screen.

I just picked this up. I think today would be a good day to start watching (the 65th anniversary of Normandy). I am really excited to watch this. I have heard such good things.

I envy anyone watching this series for the first time, especially on BD.

Except Part 5, the PQ on the remaining parts were quite inconsistent due to DNR. Within a split second you can see grain appearing and suddenly vanishing. Someone mentioned that HBO are grain haters. I am not sure about the authenticity of the statement but I wish it was false.

Blu-ray : 340

This is one of those series where I pick it up to watch 1 episode and end up watching several... every time.

I saw this series the same year as I did my 10 month military service. It had a great impact on me.

Rewatching it now on Blu. Still great.

Without reading every single post in this thread, does anyone here know if the UK release is any different from the CDN/US release? Apparently the UK release is cheaper and I'm tempted to buy it, but I won't if its picture and audio quality is worse than the North American release.

AFAIK they're exactly the same. I'm shocked how cheap BoB is on Blu over here at the moment. Makes a nice change

If no one else say something contradictory in the next 5 hours, I'll order my own copy from Amazon UK!

Don't bother to wait.

I ordered a copy for myself and the parents for xmas and it's identical save a few differences with the labeling on the bd disks themselves. Content wise, there's no difference.

A few weeks ago I purchased BOB at Amazon UK, the site showed it in stock and region free. I checked today and while still back-ordered they changed the disk to region 2. I sent them an email and they said that HBO (Warner) has decided to enforce region coding on the resupply and the disks they are receiving are definitely region 2, if I need one to play on Region 1 I should purchase it from Amazon USA. I tried to get them to honor the price and ship region 1 but they wouldn't do it. So be warned!

Well when it's available in the States, why would you order it from there anyway?

Wouldn't worry about it. Amazon UK lists every blu as region 2. Doesn't mean anything. (And FWIW, the region coding on blu rays should be A, B or C).

Most if not all Warner BD releases in Europe have been region free.

BD-A1010/CD-S1000/PF60
HTR-6290/A-S1000/KDL46V5100

Thanks guys, this is my first purchase from outside the USA, I'll let the order ship and let you know if I have a problem. Since the best price I've seen here is $50 + tax at Costco the $31 shipped from the UK is a nice savings.

Thanks Again
Ken

Well I finally just got this on Blu Ray. I have wanted this on Blu Ray for the longest time, but I was waiting for the right price. I finally found a good deal, although I could have saves a bit more getting it from amazon UK, but I had already ordered mine. I loved this series. I watched when it was first on HBO and I also have it on DVD. For whatever reason I never made it past episode 5, not because it wasn't good, but I just never did. So from 5 on I will be seeing it for the first time on Blu Ray. I watched a bit of the first 2 episodes after I got it and I did notice the very grainy scenes mixed in with the very clear scenes, a minor annoyance, maybe, but I really don't care, it doesn't take away from the story. This is a great series, I especially like when they're interviewing the vets at the beginning of each episode, amazing stuff. Hopefully Ill start watching it in earnest this weekend. Looking forward to it and to finally finishing the series.

I ordered a couple of weeks or so ago from Amazon.UK so I, too have been waiting for the backorder to come in. I also ordered the Godfather Collection for $31 shipped. On the UK site, the Godfather is listed as "all-region", but BOB is now listed as Region 2. My hope is that they merely ported over that info from the DVD version, hence the '2' rather than 'B'.

Also, I notice Black Narcissus is shown as Region 2. I have that Blu-ray, and it definitely plays in Region A (but the SD features do not play). So, I do not think Amazon UK can really be trusted on the matter. I am not canceling my order, either.

Got notice today that my order from Amazon UK shipped. Mine was on backorder as well. I'll let you know when I get mine if it plays (I'm sure it will, but just to let you know).

Thanks. Mine still has not shipped, and it usually takes 1-1/2 weeks to get to me; so you should have yours well before I get mine.

Received mine today (2-9-10). I have only looked at disc one, but that disc definitely plays on my Panasonic player, so we're good to go.
