Mine showed up in the mail today as well. Plays perfectly. Box arrived without a scratch on it too. I know what I'll be doing today.

Just announced. A sad note . . . Major Richard "DicK" Winters, leader of the the "Band of Brothers," peacefully passed away last week at the age of 92.

I, like many others, was introduced to Maj. Winters and the heroism of his men of Easy Company, through HBO's epic and acclaimed mini-series "Band of Brothers." He was true leader among leaders -- America's "Greatest Generation."

THANK YOU, Major Winters, for your years of selfless service to our nation and the free world. I'm sure many of the the soldiers who looked up to you and bravely fought with you welcomed you with a salute as you entered the gates of heaven. May you R.I.P.

Please try to stay on topic relative to the technical nature of the discs (I left the original post about Mr Winters as a footnote to the subject matter). I rolled back the thread to the footnote.

Some posts were deleted that inflammatory, responding to those posts, name calling and generally off topic (not all posts deleted fell into any of these categories, but were due to clean up). If you see a problem post, do not respond, but use the report post icon.

Thanks

Please, let's get back to the technical nature of the release of the blu ray.

You should check out this screenshot comparison between the UK and the japanese version.
How on earth could they let filters erase all those details?
The japanese version is far superior!
Here it is (especially screenshot 1, 6, 8, 10, 11):

Wow. This is even worse than I remember from an earlier comparison with the HD-DVD. The filtering on the UK version not only removed fine detail, but erased entire objects like debris, birds (image 8), tracer rounds etc. Judging from the screenshots, this seems to be just as bad as on the first version of Gladiator ...

Holy crap. If I upgrade from my DVD it definitely won't be to the HBO/Warner release. To Hell with that.

I'm shocked. I used to own the spectacular HD-DVD set and now own the Warner/HBO UK set. If I'd known that whole planes would be wiped out I might have changed my mind.

Fortunately I haven't purchased the UK set yet...I was actually about to order.
Damn....the japanese edition costs around $200.

I still have my Japanese HD-DVD set that I pre-ordered for $125 oh so long ago.
I watch it regularly as IMO and others it still is the finest WWII series ever made and by a pretty fair margin.

Having a guy's movie weekend soon and the episode where they take out the German gun emplacements in Normandy is getting shown.
A brilliant piece of film making.

For fun I converted my HD-DVD version of episodes 1 & 2 to Blu Ray last night, and it looks damn good! Also, ripped out the Japanese subtitles, loving that part, nothing to switch off. Maybe I will do the other discs for fun, since Blu Ray blank discs have gotten so cheap on-line.

That just about takes the mickey on such a level that I feel sick. Do these idiot companies even watch the discs being destroyed during the filtering madness!

I own the UK discs, they are a good upgrade over my old dvds, but damn! to loose soo much information during evil filtering is pretty vile.

Mass spamming the company to demand replacements should now be everyone job! find an email addy and I will write one! and get everyone I know to send one as well, even if they dont own the discs.

Both the US and UK versions are distributed by Warner so they should be exactly the same.

Just sent an email to Warner UK about this. They should reissue just like Universal did with Gladiator. Facebook campaign?

I have both the US Blu Ray release and the HD-DVD version. The Blu Ray, in actual real world viewing, looks slightly less detailed. Nothing that would cause me to lose sleep over it. The DNR is not on the level of the original Gladiator release, or anything really that bad.

I used to own the Japanese HD-DVDs and now have the Blu-ray set. When I compared the two I noticed that the HD-DVDs were more detailed. There was more visible grain structure on the HD-DVDs. The Blu-rays looked 'smoother' without this structure. What I didn't know was what has been revealed in those shot-for-shot comparisons is that whole aircraft and other important details are missing! I might have thought twice about selling my HD-DVDs had I known that.

thats a reason why they probably wont do it, because they can say that a superion version actually exists (even though its expensive, but they wont care)

There are like 3 different ones on amazon that you can buy, what is the difference? Prices seem to vary around 15-20 bucks, and they look the same.

The price difference is due to them being from different sellers.

I noticed a new listing on Amazon Japan for a Band of Brother Blu-Ray set. I'm going to keep looking at it for a couple weeks (doesn't release until August 8th), but I'm not holding my breath that it's the same Blu-Ray transfer that was released a few years ago over there (without DNR). The discs look the same as the US set and it said it's distributed by Warner Brothers. Here's the link.

Really sucks that no-one has acquired a copy of this yet to test for sure, I know it's more likely that it's the WB version but would really like to have definitive confirmation and not just speculation.

doby,
I'll be following this thread because I still have some HD-DVDs(sad), that haven't been released on BD but mainly because IMO, BOB is as fine a film as has ever been made and I still watch it.
I've had a few friends over for a BOB marathon and they are to a person thoroughly blown away.
Reminds me in the wasteland leading to the Superbowl, I need to watch this again this weekend.

I'm gonna fire up BoB later today to test out my new Sony Soundbar. The bass should be awesome! I just wish HBO would release it, The Pacific, and Generation Kill in regular Blu series packaging instead of the damn tin case and fold out routine.
