Not the same disc, that is the longer cut and the UK has extras.
We do agree on the sound tho.

I was more answering Josh Z statement: The French/UK HD DVD has bad DNR, edge enhancement, and muddy colors. I would assume that the Blu-ray is sourced from the same transfer.

So I would say not same based on that review.

The HD DVD received a couple of rave reviews when it was released as well. It didn't deserve them.

Is the Fr. Bleu from the same source as the HD DVD?

"I wonder if any of the releases had slipcovers though."
"Are these comfirmed to have slipcovers?"
"They look nice in those slips."
"This slipcover looks too good to pass up."

The French HD DVD and the French BD share the same 19mbit VC1 encode, and are from the same Director's Cut master, which has extremely low resolution, looking practically like an upscale.

This new TC BD looks an improvement, but it's nothing amazing: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Brothe...9/#Screenshots

It seems like both Blu-ray versions are compromised in different but equally significant ways:

French Directors Cut Blu-ray - medium quality transfer but no DNR/EE

UK Theatrical Cut Blu-ray - better quality transfer but with heavy DNR/EE

Just ordered this, which includes both Theatrical and Director's cuts. Only problem is it has no English subtitles, just English dubs.

Will report more when I get my copy next week.

You see me reaching for my f****** wallet?!?

I ordered the German version yes it is Region free, or at least it plays on my Region A Blu-Ray player.

I watched the directors cut it last night, great movie , one of those gems you don't expect to be as good as it ends up being.

It has a DTS 5.1 English track, the only glitch I noticed was about half way through the (German I believe) subtitles turn on and you can't turn them back off.

Also the cover of the one I received differs from the one here slightly http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...mage=0#auswahl in that it has a blue square in the left bottom corner labeled with FSK ab 16, I assume the ab means Region A & B not sure however.

I saw this in the theater when it came out and even there the film print was not that great. It wasn't the theater equipment either.

"Bring out yer dead!".."Wait I'm not dead yet!"..(Sound Austrian here) "WRONG !!" (You know what happens next..)
