Thanks House, the caps look great. Nice and grainy and contrasty. It's safe to assume that any softness is due to the original source, or the state of the source at the time of the restoration.

And even at these fairly high bitrates there's the slightest hint of blocking in some of the shots, and more clearly visible in Part III. Definitely would not want to see what a shoddy Warner encode of this material would look like.

The thing that strikes me the most however is the fact that the films are all 1.78:1. Not a huge issue in itself, but I seem to recall RAH saying these would be OAR 1.85:1.

Yeah I was wondering about the 1:78:1 too! I don't think I'v ever seen the 1:85:1 versions? Perhaps it was open matte and we're not missing anything?

Wow, thanks for the original DVD. I'd lent these to a friend so I couldn't get a grab off it.

These films are supposed to have solid, inky, super-deep blacks. There's a reason Gordon Willis is affectionately referred to as "the Prince of Darkness", and it's illustrated on those screen shots.

Very happy with how these look. The last time I saw these movies was on cable and it looked and sounded HORRIBLE... This looks like a night and day difference.

How is the audio track?

just wondering if amazon would do a price adjustment. I places an order when it was $89.99. Or do I have to order another one and then go ahead and cancel the first order?

Send Amazon an email asking them to adjust the price.

Thanks for the tip on this trilogy at amazon! Great price. Was going to wait for the eventual separate releases but this one's worth it.

Ehh, I guess. The review had a pretty fanboyish and condescending tone to it.

If I knew nothing about the Trilogy, I'd prefer the BRD capture to the DVD capture. I'm not sure how well it fits in with the color palette of the rest of the movie(s), though.

In all the DVDbeaver shots the skin tones are rather rich, that may be a good thing and we have had sub-par quality till now.
But there is a shift in the colour timing there, lets just hope there are no scenes that have a Dracula shift to them.

Greetings,

I have gotten through half of The Godfather. Overall it looks fine and seems to have maintained its original look/visual style. Grain is intact and I think apparent resolution is as good as it can be. I look forward to getting through II and III.

Cheers,
