I thought Outbreak looked and sounded pretty good. Definitely worth the 14.95 or whatever it ended up on Amazon. Still waiting to watch Eraser and US:2.

Really surprised with the audio on Outbreak. I commented as such on the Tier thread as I didn't quite expect it to be that entertaining. I gave this True HD track a Tier 1 rating. The PQ was good but the audio was the star of this BD IMHO. For $15, this is one of the best bang for buck BDs there is!

I considered doing this myself... but the local stores I checked quickly didn't have any in stock either... and while Amazon might still have it, I figure I could just end up exchanging one waiting list for another if a bunch of people "jump ship" on their orders... but I really appreciate you passing on the info. I kind of expected maybe Warner misjudged demand on their budget titles.

People like to buy cheap movies... so maybe this bodes well for more future cheap offerings.

Well, I have received and seen both of these titles...

Eraser looked good and sounded good - it's not going to get higher than Tier 3 probably, but it's solid.

Under Siege 2 looked good, but sounded VERY weak. I would estimate the audio on US2 was a good 6db below reference level of other titles. Once you compensate, it's okay, but it lacked alot of the pop of Eraser's soundtrack, and the low volume level didn't help.

Still, US2 is an upgrade over the DVD to be sure, and it is pure campiness gold. For pure fun value, it's a solid A.

Strangely... I had Pushing Daisies on pre-order, and my Under Siege 2 from another pre-order... and both now say they shipped Friday so I may have them Monday! The "strange" part is that even though they shipped both the same day, they put them in two shipments! And both are coming next-day-air as usual.

I have to love WHV and their "standard" next-day-air shipping! Seriously, not being sarcastic there. I love that they do that.

Yep, definitely a guilty pleasure. I love the scene where the bad guys are all in shock and awe when they find out Casey Ryback is on the train. Seagal certainly was full of himslf back then

yeah they ended up shipping out Blow to me early. Under Siege 2 went out in its own box while Blow, Speed Racer and risky Business went in another.

A good measure of fun factor is how many lines you can quote in urbane conversation from the movie. Did you see the body? Assumption is the mother of all... Not mace, pepper spray, sold to civilians... That's no moon, it's a space station!

Okay, that got away from me a bit toward the end...

So how is the PQ of under siege 2. For that matter how is Under Siege 1 PQ. I'd like to get both of them, but not if they look like they are in need of new transfers.

I would say 3 stars out of 5 for US1 and 3,5 stars for US2

HD DVD 300+
BD 500+

I watched US2 on a 147in screen via the RS1 projector, and noticed no jaggies. Actually the US2 transfer shocked the hell outta me, much better than i was expecting.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I'm gonna disagree... Tier1? Sure audio is good but not great since it doesn't use much of the surrounds.

I wonder if it's a different encode than the import, then. Even with the jaggies on the import (HD DVD), they're VERY subtle and I'd actually rather have them there than have the picture softened to hide them. After watching US2 disc, I threw on another movie and noticed credits at the end looked soft and out of focus whereas US2 was sharp as a tack. And not in an increased sharpness kind of way.

Under Siege 2 is a slice of pure action movie gold. Decent disc too. It's not spectacular but it gets the job done.

yea, US2 was worth $15 to me. Even if it had lossless, I don't think it would be the dramatic improvement people think it would be, especially given the bitrates of Warner's TrueHD tracks.

Lossless is lossless, and the resolution of a digital master from 1995 would be 16-bit anyway.
