*Warning* this thread may not be spoiler free. I will put spoiler tags on some the images just in case.

"At this juncture it's important to remember that AVS is a home theater enthusiasts web site. This particular forum is for those interested in the highest level of accuracy in film reproduction possible, within their budget of course. Those who do not share this interest should expect to find disagreement with their opinions, and may want to reconsider their participation here."

A recall may be too strong of a word for this Blu-ray title. But something horrible has happened on its way to the BD disc. DNR, EE and dirt and specks?!? can be found on this transfer. The PQ is all over the place, some scenes its very good (see Iron Man or Indy 4) then you get some scenes that reminds you of DNR titles like Face Off or Top Gun. After seeing the IMAX prologue from Batman Begins the expectations from us is sky high and there are no reason to be skeptical from the team that also brought you one of my personal reference PQ Blu-ray discs The Prestige. Is this what the filmakers wanted us to see in our home?

The AR is not distracting. It blends seamlessly when switching. Its the sudden drop of PQ that is going to be distracting.

This is a PQ shot from the IMAX scene:

This is PQ shot from the 35 mm scene.

Where is the consistency? The first person to give me an excuse "Oh because its 35mm. It's not fair!", I will put you in my ignore list or call The Pope. I have read that loooong thread by Alan concerning the PQ issues. He was right. There is PQ issues. If you can't see the problems in your setup then that is fine. I will not insult you for that. By reason of sight, personal preference, lack of knowledge or just your HT equipment is not "good enough" to show every detail. To some people they are forgetting why you are here in the first place. I can understand there is some tolerance level regarding DNR or EE. But there is just instances where these manipulations on films is just too much to ignore. Of course we are going to be hearing lots of excuses and "explanations" but who are they fooling? Me?

I am not going to convince to you to not buy the disc because this is going to be a bestseller no matter what. The movie itself is very good. Would have been nice if we get a reference PQ release to complement it.

I chose this shot because the center of attention is the hand with the pencil. Of which we can see obvious EE. Hard to miss right?

I would like to add that Warner is not immune to having their HD transfers improved. In fact ONE YEAR after the release of Troy on HD DVD they released the Director's Cut on both formats. Here is an example:

More pictures here in my other comparison thread.. You can bet that a DC cut will happen in the future. Spend now or rent?

That first posted DVD shot has some serious blocking issues.

In that case.

Xylon - don't post pics of Two Face. What they did was so grotesque and fantastic, it would easily be the worst spoiler of the movie(talking to you blu-ray dot com).

Ridiculous codec tier sig gone. Still AVC/24bit lossless fanboy.

Studio quality tier
Most Major studios>Small Studios>dogs>cats>Warner(the guys that do new movies)

Wow, that looks awful. I like how the entire bottom of the table has a halo.

Anybody who calls this reference is a fool.

Utterly awful image quality in that BD screenshot from the pencil trick scene. WB can quite effortlessly persuade millions of dvd users not to bother with Blu Ray with those two images.

PS Xylon why does the watermark look so different on the DVD image?

There's a couple things I don't understand about EE such as this. Why do the studios have such poor quality software to do the sharpening with (we all know it is possible to do a decent sharpen without producing such horrid halos). And let's assume they go overboard with sharpening for Joe Six Pack so that the movie appears even more "HD", it's a shame though because most of the J6P's I know have the sharpness turned up on their display anyway.

I agree. The blocking is too much.

I will take it down for now and check my settings/decoders. See if it's my drivers doing that. The BD however is 100% accurate.

The watermark difference is no big deal (check my other comparison threads) its just that its not the same level.

I will make it identical level next time.

That's sad to hear because it looks so disappointing.
