guys, more people have to get over and report the truth on amazon. This is fraud. Members of a porn site have been encouraged to give only 5 star reviews, (their first ever review of a product too!) and i'm sure none of them own it, have seen it and many don't even know what a "Blue Ray DVD" is...

and for pete's sake, one of the "reviewers" is the same guy who uploaded all the images...

Amazon needs to know...

It is so weird that the porn site's starlet is encouraging the astroturfing on Amazon of a classic cartoon BLu-ray release that was done in a distorted OAR.

talk about internet weirdness "how bizzare"

By the way, the 4:3 DVD version I just found looks pretty good upconverted by my trusty old HD XA2 and the Sony BDP-S350 and for kicks even the PS3 I have on my rack today.

Its animation so upconversion works pretty well. I'd prefer a Blu-ray in OAR but what the heck, after reading all about this I had to see the movie anyway....

The question would be, who is willing to sacrifice himself and give this movie a 5 star rating, and see what you get for free.

I noticed Amazon deleted many of the one star reviews, including mine.

Looks like I'll have to boycott Amazon too. All these companies don't want my money. Soon I won't have any use for this green stuff.

Guh! I really gotta stop posting at silly hours and after allnighters. I vaguely remember copying the link for the 2 heads of Gulliver post... but obviously never hit paste...

Thanks Dave.

So an employee enlists members of her porn site to shill review the product on Amazon in order to get a personal bonus? Maybe someone should contact Koch/E1, I mean it reflects poorly on them even if it's just the action of one person (of course it'd be even worse if they were in on it too.)

Did anyone by chance take some screen grabs of the various reviews, if so send this little topic to consumerist.com.
Especially if amazon is retaining the company spin reviews in place of the legit reviews.

The Hal Roach Studios DVD one is mastered from the actual film. Almost all the other DVDs are just taken from the same public domain master.

Mine too, Amazon has really sunk to a unnecessarily low place on this one since I presume only they can cut the negative reviews.

Not that I was a big amazon customer before this, but I will never buy from a company that handles reviews in this matter.

What other movies has this happend to?

This is so odd, I posted another negative (1 star) review on Amazon for this title, and it showed up under the date of the first review I wrote that has since been extracted. My original guess on this was that Amazon was removing reviews that were written prior to the actual release date of the title.

I actually think their whole system is worthless, I've noticed many DVDs and Blu-rays that just lump in reviews from other releases of the same film, making no distinction as to the edition in question.

more info from my source, (who wishes to remain anonymous...)

"BTW, here's part of an update email that she sent on March 18th:

"Dear Cindysinx.com Members:

I want to thank all my friends who sent in positive 5 star reviews for Gullivers Travels Blue Ray for me on Amazon.com You've been a big help and I'm grateful. We got the negative comments removed and the writers banned and were up to #42 on the sales charts and thank you."

amazing. Amazon sucks.

As I said in an earlier post, I was one of the first negative posts before the BD was released and it's been removed.

I just posted another negative review at 1152 hours on 3/26/09. Let's see if it gets posted or not. If it doesn't, it says you can ask why.

They'll get an earfull if they try to ban me, if that's true.

EDIT: 1159 hours. Amazon just printed my review, but used the date of 1/6/09...that's the date of my original review. I wonder what's going on over there?

...finally retired and spending time in my HT!!!

My equipment consists of:

Epson 9500 UB Projector; 110" JKP Affinity Screen; Panasonic BD30 Player, Toshiba HDA1 Player; Definitive Speakers (Center, Towers, Rear); Onkyo 608 A/V Receiver; Nevo Q50 Remote; TW HD Cable Box.

Is there a contact phone number or a contact email address for Amazon without having to sign in or up to an account because i would like to contact them and i believe if they knew what was really happening they would not want the bad publicity of being associated with a porn site.

Perhaps this information could somehow be released to the press if there is anyone at this site willing to do it who maybe works for the press or a review site even.

Because the woman works for Koch during the day. I was a member briefly and received an email asking me to give a 5 star review (without even seeing the DVD or Blu-Ray for myself) to win prizes, get her a raise and allow Koch to go ahead with "Superman".

Done. I've also taken time to rate the various Amazon reviews as "helpful", or not. I'd suggest others do the same.

i really think that the digital bits or endgadget should do a story on this. This is shameful. And amazon in collusion, (right word?) with them is a disgrace. Bordering on fraud IMHO.

I agree, Dave. The people involved with these scumbag tactics need to be completely exposed. I mean it was bad enough they released a complete POS product, but now this...

My second review that was posted last night was just removed, so I posted another bad one. I also called customer service and asked why my two reviews were removed. They said I'll get an answer in 24-48 hours. I also reminded them that the internet will also be notified of their answer. I didin't get into the porn crap...yet!

Hi again.

Well, someone had to expose this farce. I believe films should be presented in their OAR and cropping, stretching, and overusing DNR like this is just unforgivable. After receiving emails from her asking me to be a shill on Amazon I just couldn't keep it quiet! Some nerve!

BTW, sorry to be picky, but shouldn't the thread title read "Gulliver's Travels 1.37:1 only please"?
