I've heard a disturbing rumor that the upcoming Blu-Ray of Max Fliesher's animated classic, Gulliver's Travels will for the first time be presented in "widescreen" by Kotch Media.
This of course would be an extremely misguided move as it's original 1.33:1 ratio would require the top and bottom of the frame be whacked off.
Any way to complain about this where it would do some good?
Koch doesn't own the rights to any of them. There were 17 "Fleischer Supermans" (although the last eight didn't involve the Fleischers) and WB previously released them on iTunes and as part of the Superman I and II SEs. But all 17 shorts are in the public domain (as is Gulliver's Travels), so there's nothing to stop Koch or anyone else from doing their own release -- and indeed there are several DVD releases of varying quality, along with tons of websites offering the shorts for download. WB controls the original elements, though.
Also, unless I'm mistaken, this new WB release is DVD-only, at least for now. I'd love to be proved wrong, though.

Yep DVD only i just supplied the link to let people know there is at least one studio doing the right thing in releasing with original aspect ratio.
Thanks for letting me know about the public domain thing as i never knew that and lets hope if Koch does go ahead with a Blu Ray release they actually do it right this time.
After getting a look at this thing, I gave it a negative review.
I also took the time to mark all those glowing reviews as not helpful, and reported the posts as inappropriate. Those guys want to play dirty? Well, so can we.
As I'd mentioned previously the Blu-ray of Thunderbirds had been cropped down to widescreen also (well, it actually looks more like Gulliver is squashed but anyway), so all of this made me think to check whether my 1-star warning of Blu-ray Thinderbirds on the American Amazon site had been deleted like the Gulliver reviews.
So I went there and the title seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. What the hell is going on over there at Amazon?
Did Amazon US ever actually sell the Thunderbirds set? Every source I've seen says it's Region B (can anyone confirm?) so it was probably only listed by mistake.
Well, my second negative review for this item got pulled, I hope one or more of the video sites does a little write-up on Amazons shameful behavior on this matter.

They said I'll get an answer in 24-48 hours. I also reminded them that the internet will also be notified of their answer. I didin't get into the porn crap...yet!
Well, what do you know...they just removed my 3rd negative review. No response from their customer service yet, if they ever will. They did acknowledge with an email of receiving my inquiry.

Their customer service is real good and is in fact the best i have ever come across....I wanted to advertise my business on their site and i filled in their forms but they never got back to me....Not a word and not a peep from them and it's like i never existed.
I can't say Amazon made me feel welcome but hey that's another story.
( Thats sarcasm folks in my first line - Thought i would mention that for those who thought i meant it. )
My first review never showed up, but my second review appeared. We'll see how long it lasts. I took a screen shot just so I'll have proof I actually submitted one - and what it said.

I'm pretty stunned that you've pulled the majority of the negative reviews for the GULLIVER'S TRAVELS Blu-ray, while allowing 20 new bogus 5-star reviews to give a 100% false impression as to the quality of this terrible product. If you're rating/review system is to mean anything, such foolery should be out of the question.
From your message I understand that you are concerned about 20 Five star reviews for "GULLIVER'S TRAVELS Blu-ray" which are not within guidelines.
We'll certainly look into the 20 bogus reviews and will remove them if they are not within guidelines. However, I'm not able to identify the reviews in question from the information you provided because there are several reviews listed under "GULLIVER'S TRAVELS Blu-ray".
Therefore, please use the link below to send us the ASIN of the item reviewed, the subject line of the reviews, and date of the reviews as it appears on our website. This will allow us to locate the review and take appropriate action.
To write back to us with the above information, please click the following link:
Rest assured that when we hear back from you, we would look further into the matter and take appropriate action.

Since several more "glowing" reviews have appeared in the last day or so, I dashed off a note to Amazon.com about them. I included links to the most suspect reviews. I didn't include them all, since several of them could really be from people who honestly are that blind.
I'll post the result. I don't want to post the message I sent until they respond.
BTW: I would encourage everyone here to not only rate those suspect reviews as unhelpful, but report them as inappropriate, too. There is clearly a scam going on here, and, as home theater aficionados, we need to help others make a truly informed decision about this product. Sending off a polite, but concerned complaint email to Amazon would also be helpful. If they get enough of these, they can't continue to ignore us.
I'm personally sickened by this. As someone who loves movies, this situation is unacceptable to me. I'm not normally the crusading type, but I think it's necessary in this case.

"Dear Cindysinx.com members and friends. I had a wonderful birthday this weekend and i wanted to thank all of you who send me cards or gifts. I also wanted to ask you for some help.
As some of you know i work days in film and tv production and last November and December I worked on a project called "Gullivers Travels" for Koch E1 which was a restored version of the classic Fleischer Film done straight to Blue Ray and DVD. A former employee is trying to ruin our star rating on Amazon.com with false comments and lies and we need to get all my friends, members and people on my mailing list to go there and write some good positive reviews so we can get our star rating up to 5 stars. They don't have to be long just very positive and please rate this product 5 stars. I can get a big bonus if we make 5 stars and this would really help me in this poor economy. Plus if we get the rating up to 4 or 5 stars Koch will go ahead with a new movie project from us and we're scheduled to do Max Fleischer's Superman next. I need all my friends and members to please go to the links i pasted below on Amazon.com and please write some good positive reviews for me. I have attached some examples below to help you write them
I'm going to have a special contest with special prizes for the member or former member who writes the best review. I am going to read all the reviews and select the person or persons who write the best review and they will receive either a free 6 month membership to my site and any 4 of my DVD's absolutely free. For the members who write the second and third best reviews i will give them a free month and a free DVD. Also if someone writes something really terrific i will also offer to do a free one hour private one on one cam session at your convenience and do whatever you want for you and be totally nude and all yours for an hour, it's your choice.
I hope that i can count on all my friends to help me with this, it's very important to me and you will have my thanks and gratitude and really be helping me. I'm grateful for your assistance and i know i can count on you all. Thank you!

I just bought this DVD and it looks terrific! This trailer does not do it justice, the color and sounds is amazing on the actual product and i LOVE the Full Screen version becasue i don't have to watch a 5X4 version and it looks great on my new HDTV. Best Gullivers Travels i have ever seen. Please do Max Fleischer's Superman next !!!! I can't wait.
Sure, a bad BD can happen. It's the blatant manipulation by some porn harlet who has no idea what she's talking about, ("This Blue-Ray DVD is AWESOME!" You don't need a 5x4 set!") and amazon apparently participating in this scam...
Why wouldn't this thread have a lot of responses? Other titles with problems, even if less severe, have plenty of posts. See The Dark Knight...
