One of the best movies from my favorite movie makers has been spec'd and dated.

Saw it a long time ago and didn't love it. I'd be willing to give it another chance if it looked great. Judging by the specs though it doesn't seem to have anything new over the 2003 DVD release, so I'm not expecting much.

Hopefully, MGM will use the original burned in subtitles and the opening title card instead of the dreadful player generated ones in the 2003 DVD.

Two more Bonds and the first six Trek movies (along with the first season of TOS) are also coming out that day. I will pick up Fargo at one point, but my budget won't let me do it on day one.

PETER JACKSON: The theatrical versions are the definitive versions.

This is an absolute corker of a movie, i'll be waiting for a disc review and if they have left the DNR switch well alone this will be a keeper

I gotta say this.

I live in Winnipeg and I've traveled to Fargo countless times. I spent most of my summers there when I was younger. Winnipeg still gets TV stations from Fargo on the cable system.

People in Fargo don't sound even remotely like the people in the movie. For all practical purposes, they have no accents at all. They sound just like me. It's the same, standard, middle american speech that you hear from any network news anchor. Frances McDormand sounds like she's doing an 1870's Swedish immigrant accent.

Hey, though...great movie and people in Fargo actually like to goof it up with viewing parties where they attempt (poorly) to do the movie accent. I've seen that on a few of the Fargo stations. They are terrific sports about the whole thing.

Just thought I'd mention that fact for our international readers .

My fiance is from there and does sound like that even though it's exagerrated in the film. Although she says the exact same thing regarding the accent and doesn't like the movie due to that.

Sometimes I'll catch her on the horn chatting with someone back home and the North Dakota comes out.

Im probably completely wrong but...

You probably sound like that too but don't realize it because you've been around it your whole life. Kind of like the way when I go back to Philly where I grew up, I can totally notice the accent even though I have it too.

Anyways... I can't wait for this one.

Saw an interview with Peter Stormare some years ago when he told about this little story. (this is for Fargo fans)

He was talking with a director for another project.
And when they talked about how he was going to play
this character in the new project.
Dir: Have you seen Fargo by the way?
Peter: Well, yes...
Dir: You know, there is a blond dude in that movie, do you think you can play it like he does?
Peter (leaving): Nope, thats above my capacity.

Good movies are as rare as an on topic discussion.

"I'm not gonna f'ing debate ya Jerry"

.....but

I watched Fargo several times before moving into the midwest...

My wife and I met online and corresponded for several weeks before actually talking on the phone....she was living in Fargo and a native of the vicinity.

The first time we spoke on the phone my reaction was "Holy Sh!t" this is right out of the movie!!!

Agreed - it is exaggerated in the movie - but it does exist!!

FYI, Fargo is in North Dakota (the location of the bar in the beginning of the film). The majority of the film takes place in Minnesota.

Given that virtually nothing apart from the first scene of the movie is actually set in Fargo, I'm not sure what the problem is

No doubt....a bit exagerated, but it is there.

I know a ton of people from the UP here in Michigan who have a similar accent...they even have a bumper sticker up there that you see all the time....."Say yah, to da UP...Eh"

Well at least one of the storys wasnt real. The Japanese woman that was killed looking for the money was mostly created by the press.

She did commit suicide, but the movie Fargo had nothing to do with it.

First review of Fargo is in (at DVD Times)... and it's a pass for me.

It's kind of sad because it looks like they didn't bother with the noise-reduction much, the grain is there. But the image has instead been sharpened to a severe degree, creating halos and intensifying the grain structure.

Definitely some EE there, but to me it only really stands out around the jackets. It looks bearable to me. At least they didn't apply DNR!
