I spoke with a nice woman named Maurine when I just called and got clarification on something I've seen discussed in different forums

-Ultimate Matrix: I luckily have my glue on piece of paper, and that is all you need to submit in order to get the set (i.e. you don't need to send in all of the coverart's from the set, I didn't think that was the case, but some on here thinking this was the case, so i wanted to clarify)
-Oceans 11/12/13: They only want the slip cover that goes over the cardboard, not the cardboard holder... this is because the slip is what has the UPC.
-They have got MANY complaints about the paper for the Ultimate Matrix trilogy and have forwarded the concerns to management (I for one love how it is right now, because I can finally get rid of that paper and leave my whole set in tact, but i understand how folks aren't happy if they scraped it long ago)

So far, i'm pretty pumped about this. Looking to replace my box sets and a few HD's (Batman Begins, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and a couple other combo discs)

Forbidden Planet isn't available on BD yet and doesn't appear to be a part of the program. (Yes, I do own the basic version of it on HD DVD, not the Ultimate Collector's Edition.)

At least I can get the upgraded version of Casablanca.

Bazinga!

I'm sorry, I knew that. My wording was poor. My point was that I would have no use for a second copy that isn't even as good as the one I already own.

WHat ones aren't as good?

Not meant to be sarcastic, I'm asking because I don't need to get copies of something that aren't at least identical in video quality to ones I already own? How many "aren't as good," which ones are they? If there are some that aren't as good I won't bother to get a worse copy.

I figured they were all at least identical.

Most of them are identical, but some movies like 300 and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire had exclusive Picture-in-Picture features that weren't carried over to the Blu-ray versions. There were also some titles that got TrueHD audio on HD DVD but only Dolby Digital on BD, though I don't have any of them. Picture quality was identical across the board, except for maybe the first handful of releases that used MPEG2 on the BDs.

Off the top of my head, Training Day (no TrueHD track), the early 300 pressings (no PiP).

OK, wait, so those of us with the original Complete MATRIX Trilogy are shite out of luck?

Do the BD versions for Batman Begins and V For Vendetta have lossless sound?

No, I'm hearing from multiple people at HDD that have called customer service that you are eligible for the BD upgrade from either the Complete or Ultimate HD DVD editions.

Yeah. There are a few others on the list that Warner did the same with, so I'd double-check with some reviews to make sure on the ones you do have.

That's what I'd like to find out.

Also, both of those titles come with lossless sound.

my 300 is the non combo version so i'm going to have to ask if they will do it (while i like the PiP track the disc just won't play on my A20... it gets to the WB logo then stops)

casablanca... well i like collectors boxes full of useless swag and i didn't even pay for my hd dvd copy to begin with (5 free offer and the cover wasn't molested)

maybe batman begins just for format consistency with TDK (considering the blu does have all the bonus from the red)

and i'll see what they say about the matrix trilogy (if i can luck out and upgrade to the ultimate through this... unlikely but i can always hope)

i'm not sending them my year one case from the HP set... i can deal with 3 blu cases next to 5 red

Looks like they are currently missing U-571 and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. If they include those, my Warner collection will be completely moved.

U-571 is a Universal title.

Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Forbidden Planet, Poseidon and Terminator 3 will be the only remaining Warner HD DVDs in my collection after this offer.

The PiP feature of 300 hasn't been replicated on Blu-ray yet. There was some talk of a double-dip coming in the future though.

There are a couple WB HD DVDs that are "better" than the BD counterpart in some way... Lady in the Water and Happy Feet (and previously Superman Returns) had TrueHD tracks on HD, but only DD on BD.

I have the Matrix and Harry Potter 1-5 sets in HD, but ended up getting the BDs later on as well when i found them for a good price.

I guess those of us that may have already bought in both formats could trade-in and sell the second BD copy... probably only end up with a couple dollars per disc though

Dang, you're right! Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is key for us because my 8 yr old always wants to watch it, but it freezes up half-way through the movie...

There are some great deals to be had even if you don't have an HDDVD player there are stores (on-line) selling HDDVDs on this list REALLY inexpensive (and note some HDDVDs are a combo including the regular DVD version on it too) and after calculating in the $5 to get the BD title it works on (on some titles) to be less expensive than buying the BD 'normally'. You can get the HP and Matrix HDDVD set really inexpensive and then use the 'labels' to get the BDs at pricing lower than buying the BDs 'only'.

What a great idea! I have about 15 or 16 movies I can switch over, including the Harry Potter films. I had a couple more, but sold them on eBay.

EDIT: I do still have Casablanca, still shrink wrapped.

This is really great. I have a over 100 HD DVDs and was thinking to rip them and sell the copies but now I don't have to. I have the most of Warner ones and for low price I can switch them to Blu and have everything on one format as backup.

$4.95 is not bad.

Trading in the Ultimate Matrix Collection seems to be the best deal on there.

The double dip version of 300 is likely to hit in July alongside Watchmen.

I would love to see Universal make an offer like this, but looking through my collection today made me realize how far behind they are in bringing their HD DVD titles to Blu-ray. Since they weren't neutral like WB, it's not as easy to offer a Blu version of the old titles. Paramount would be a more likely possibility, since they were also neutral for most of the format war and a similar offer would be far easier for them than Universal.

PETER JACKSON: The theatrical versions are the definitive versions.

The Warner exchange program will make things easier for me.

However, I can see some problematic discs.

I have the earlier release of Full Metal Jacket with the white cover. What is shown on the Warner website is the remaster with the black cover. Will I be covered?

I also want to turn in a Casablanca, but the Casablanca Blu-ray edition is deluxe edition only. What exactly will I get?

If this program just started I guess I will wait and see what happens to other people.

Off to look for a Planet Earth hd-dvd for less than 20 bucks.

I finally got a Blu Ray player over a week ago, and this deal was pretty much a no-brainer, as my 6 WB HD-DVDs are collecting dust. My envelope goes out tomorrow, hopefully it's really around 5 weeks and not 3+ months.

Blu-Ray - 8
HD-DVD - 12
SD-DVD - 221

They have a special version only for this program. You'll get just the movie in its own case.
