Got this at TheHDroom.....

Paramount Home Entertainment has unveiled plans to bring the Star Trek films with Next Generation cast to Blu-ray Disc this fall, confirming months of rumors suggesting they were on the way.
On September 29, Paramount will release the Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection on Blu-ray and DVD which includes Star Trek: Generations, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek Nemesis, and a bonus disc. The set totals 5 discs and will offer the films in 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio.

Star Trek: First Contact, a fan favorite, will be the only Next Generation film offered separately from the box set on the same date. Also debuting individually for the first time on Blu-ray are the "even" numbered films: Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek: The Voyage Home, and Star Trek: Undiscovered Country.

Only want 'Generations' and 'First Contact'. Oh well, guess I'll only buy 'First Contact'. Hope these Blu-rays aren't plagued by waxy faces (heavy DNR) like the original movies set.

I wish they hadn't given up on the 7.1 audio.

If the clips on the current BDs are any indication then you are sadly right.

Considering ST6 is one of the worst looking BDs, I'm scared of what their first 4 efforts look like.

Oh God, not more grain added, removed, scraped, shipped in and out - shake it all about and do the hokey pokey, EE DNR raped etc crap..... Please no.

As for the films, I will buy them and add them to the first 6 and enjoy them, just like I did the first lot.

Wondering how TNG was shot ... film or video? If film, we'll likely see Blu-ray versions of these similar to the TOS boxed sets. As tempting as TNG is on DVD w/the DeepDiscount sale going on, I'll wait if Blu-rays of TNG is possible.

Definitely getting this set. I think we all know that Paramount aren't gonna surprise us and deliver clean, tight encodes with naturalistic grain on a catalogue title, so I've given up caring. I took the TOS movies set for what it was, and enjoyed myself immensely. I'm sure I'll be saying the same thing about the TNG set, as I like each and every one of those flicks too. And don't forget the commentary from Frakes on Insurrection, which will be worth the price of admission on its own.

My understanding is that it is a comingling of both. So it will be a real challenge (and expensive) to release a quality BD.

The TV show was shot on film, but editing and post were performed on video tape.

It's the TNG movies that are being released on BD, not the series.

I understand that Tom. I (and I believe Brajesh) were also referencing the series, and if it would eventually be released on BD.

I'm excited to see this set come out. It's been so long since I've seen these movies. I might have a couple of them on videotape, I don't have any on DVD. Buying this set will not really be any sort of double-dip for me (as I'd never really count videotape!) so I think it'll be worthwhile, especially for some of those special features.

The canadian channel "Space" has been airing TNG daily & I've been re-watching it since I haven't seen it for years. The horrific quality of Space as it's not a HD channel may make me be more forgiving for any ugly processing they may do to them... Nah, who am I kidding; I'll be cranky about it but it certainly won't look any worse than what I've been watching with the TNG cast lately!

Curious to see how these come out. I didn't buy any of the first set of movies because of the quality issues, and I can hold off on these too, if they aren't done right.

Hoping for the best, but I'm not buying crap anymore just cause I like the movies.

You can bet that Paramount didn't spend much money on these as well (only TWOK was restored because it was in poor shape). Most likely they did indeed just DNR'ed and EE'ed the hell out of the masters they used for the last DVD editions to make them appealing to today's grain-hating types.

All gather round the dungeon and look at blownup screenshots and scoff....LMAO

I enjoy all 4 of these films and look forward to them looking and sounding better than they ever have

IIRC, it was all done at 480i as well. I think all the Trek series were handled the same way except "Enterprise" (which was in HD). TNG, DS9, VOY all have a lot of work that needs to be done to make a BD release worth it and who knows if Paramount is willing to put the money into such a project. I'd love to see DS9 in HD but, it would have to be more then just a simple upconvert for me to buy them.

Wasn't this reported like 2/3 months ago on Digital Bits ........
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/rumormill.html update 6/24/09

Anyway in regards to the TNG TV series - it's my understanding that the series was edited on tape so it would requrie all new special effects for a BD release which I don't think the studio could justify the cost for

I know this isn't Blu-ray related, but I found the complete 49-disc DVD set of TNG series on eBay for $124.20 shipped! That's about $2.53/disc. Was too tempting for me to pass up.

So, if anyone's interested, the seller is still advertising more than 10 copies available. It's item #180384974877. The deal works out as follows: $135 Buy-it-Now price - $10.80 (bing.com 8% discount) = $124.20 shipped!

Boy. Caveat emptor to all of the other AVS'ers out there.

Brajesh: the item you noted is from:

1) a seller in Japan
2) with one (1) feedback
3) and he's shipping it from Japan for FREE?!? I have this set. Do you know how large and heavy it is?

I hope you didn't give him your cc info (not even a vcc). It just doesn't seem legit to me. If you get it in perfect condition in the next week, please so post on the deals forum (I guess for DVD).

I know it's a bit of a risk, but I'm covered with PayPal. If the seller doesn't deliver, I can open a dispute claim and he will be forced to supply a tracking #. If not, I'll eventually get my money back. So, the only risk I see is having to wait a while if something goes wrong. Worth it to me for that price, but others have to decide for themselves obviously.
