A cursory run around the 'net and over to blu-ray.com seems to confirm that that is the original Alliance BD release, merely in steelbook form.

I was under the impression that the Alliance steelbook actually has a different transfer than the original Alliance BD.

I'm admittedly not 100% certain either way; what little I found about the steelbook only referred to its aspect ratio being 1.78:1, like the earlier release, but zip about transfer quality. I suppose it's possible somebody went and did a second transfer, though then you hit the question of "Okay, guys, you're already at the wrong aspect ratio. Why go back and tweak that more than you already did?"

I made these a few hours ago. I just thought you folks might like to take a gander at them. They are comparisons of the Echo Bridge re-release and the Japanese release.

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/114042
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/114045
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/114043

IMHO the grain is better resolved in the Japanese release, but the colors are more accurate in the Echo Bridge release.

Anti DNR, EE, incorrect AR, lossy audio, overblown contrast, and over-saturated colors.

The first one said 2.35:1 and it was in fact 1.78. Maybe this time they screwed up again by mentioning 1.78 while it's actually 2.35?

This is the re-release from Echo Bridge, which is found in the Miramax 6 High Powered Action pack for $15 at Wal-Mart. The Lookout is also in its OAR and in DTS-HD MA 5.1. However, Supercop and The Yards are both still cropped to 1.78:1 from 2.39:1.

Those screencaps do look good! Might have to get this Equilibrium version finally. Sad thing is, I would've paid $20 just for Equilibrium and Miramax could've kept the rest... now we gotta live with an ugly collage cover. Gotta print a regular or custom cover I guess.

I would have if the extras from the DVD had been ported over, but paying $15 for 1 excellent film, 1 good film, 2 butchered films, and 2 duds is still a good deal.

Hey, it beats paying $62 for the Japanese version, which as you can see is nearly identical to the new Echo Bridge release.

Yeah, I agree it's still a good deal. But yes, it would be nice to have the DVD extras included. I guess I'll actually own a movie headlined by Dolph Lundgren. LOL.

Echo Bridge is showing 2 "Coming Soon" listings on their site with Equilibrium: a 6 movie High-Powered Action Pack and a Miramax 4 movie High-Powered Action Pack. The one that we know for sure is OAR and DTS-HD is the 6 movie pack, correct?

That is correct. Equilibrium is AVC at around 17-20 Mbps and DTS-HD MA 5.1 at around 3-7 Mbps with no subtitles (typical for EB). I took all of these measurements last night.

Will have to look out for this at my local Wal-Mart. Been hoping the japanese edition would come down in price, but this will suffice.

I wanted the same thing, but there was no way I was going to pay $62 shipped for a single disc with $59 shipped being the cheapest I have ever seen it.

No problem. For a release that is comparable to the Japanese version you can't beat the price.

Yes and yes. It is part of the Miramax 6 film High Powered Action set that is being released by Echo Bridge next month. My Wal-Mart decided to ignore street date so I bought it and made the comparisons to the Japanese release several posts up in this thread.

Actually no. The Lookout is in 2.39:1 and every title has DTS-HD MA. The bitrate on Equilibrium is around 20 Mbps for video and 3-7 Mbps for audio. You have to remember that these films have no additional audio tracks to eat up space and are devoid of extras.

They did. Supercop and The Yards are cropped from 2.39:1 to 1.78:1. The two dud titles are altered to 1.78:1 from 1.85:1 and one of those is in DTS-HD MA 2.0 instead of 5.1. The point is that The Lookout and Equilibrium are quality releases.
