Good quality, just a little below the japanese disc, VERY CHEAP

I've posted the BDInfo for the Italian release over in the NEW Unofficial Blu-ray Audio and Video Specifications Thread

Also here are a few screenshot comparisons of the Japanese and Italian releases. Based off of these screenshots they look nearly identical to me.

I still firmly believe that the Echo Bridge re-release is closer to the original color palette as the Japanese and Italian discs are simply too warm. In terms of grain structure/compression it's about on par with the Italian release.

Anti DNR, EE, incorrect AR, lossy audio, overblown contrast, and over-saturated colors.

Edit: too late to the party, I was too excited to see that this was a decent release for $12.99

Just found Equilibrium as part of a 6 pack of action movies at Target for $12.

Original aspect ratio but black bars are encoded in the stream. Also includes what PowerDVD is reporting as 5.1 DTS Master Audio eek.gif
transfer quality doesnt look super great, and average data rate is between 12-18 video and 4800Kbps for audio.

So browsing Best Buy's website and saw this one for sale for about 8 bucks. Not much information but wondering if anyone new which version of Equilibrium this would be?

This U.S. disc shows a release date of March 3, 2015.

Any chance it is a new encode with proper OAR?

If the BB site is to be believed, it's the same aspect ratio as the 2011 release (1.78:1), not the OAR found in the 6-pack/JAP release.

This is the version that I bought which has OAR and a better encode (even with its low bit rate):
http://www.ebay.com/sch/ctg/High-Pow...616&rmvSB=true

EDIT: And I think the standalone is still only DD5.1 whereas the 6-pack is lossless. I'll have to verify later.

Thanks. I'm definitely picky about having those other crap films on there and it not having its own cover. I know there are remedies around that such as... well... "get over it," so I guess if I want the film this is the way I'm going to have to go.

I may have some Blu-ray cases floating around, but I don't know what kind of paper people use for custom covers or anything.

FWIW, the version of "Police Story 3: Super Cop" on the disc was also pleasant surprise. The only other version of it that I have owned or seen was the old DVD. In those terms, it "blows the DVD out of the water", but won't hold up under scrutiny compared to other BDs.

I'll post some pics later if that helps.

Looks like the only two films I care about on those discs are Equilibrium and The Lookout.

Also, someone mentioned that there was one listed as 1.78:1 AR but that the black bars were a part of the encode or something like that. Maybe this is the case here. Either way, DD 5.1 won't cut it.

I wonder what makes it so hard for them to please US customers with this one! Ha.

Black bars are always part of the encode for Blu-ray as they don't offer anamorphic (sadly) encoding.

Let's not forget that LOTR: Two Towers and Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets were also obliterating the box office when this came out. To the theater-going masses, I think Equilibrium was simply drowned out as a cheap rip off of The Matrix based upon its "trenchcoat mafia action" alone. Movie buffs probably steered clear due to the poor critical reception. Anyone else left that wanted to see it probably couldn't since it had a limited run at very few theaters to minimize its losses (which were considerable).

Basically it's a failure on every level, despite being better than a lot of garbage getting new transfers and new releases.

That said, I would definitely pay as much as $6.99 if a proper new transfer ever arrived.
