Thanks, LilGator, for answering my questions. So you're sure the two director's commentary tracks are missing? Are they, perhaps, under the audio settings menu?

If you look at the first post under audio, there are 4 tracks:

Code:
Dolby TrueHD Audio English 1685 kbps 5.1 / 48 kHz / 1685 kbps / 16-bit (AC3 Core: 5.1 / 48 kHz / 640 kbps)
Dolby TrueHD Audio Japanese 1709 kbps 5.1 / 48 kHz / 1709 kbps / 16-bit (AC3 Core: 5.1 / 48 kHz / 640 kbps)
Dolby Digital Audio English 192 kbps 2.0 / 48 kHz / 192 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio English 192 kbps 2.0 / 48 kHz / 192 kbps
I would assume the last two are commentary.

The fact that they're English and encoded at a lowly 192 kbps strongly supports that assumption but I'm confused--why do you have to assume at all? Don't you own this to check? Isn't that how you provided screenshots of the BD or did I miss an important detail here?

Okay! Superior transfer, all extras from the domestic DVD, plus the missing trailers! I'm in (though, with September's deluge of releases, I'll have to wait until October)! Thanks, everyone, for the answers!

Sorry, didn't have it in front of me at the time I responded, and my first run-through with the disc I was focused on the transfer

I just watched this with fifteen or so guests Saturday night. All I could think about was how I'd love to see the new BD instead of the filtered HDDVD I had.

This movie has got to be one of the most under rated films of all times. Awesome action and story, Bale at his finest. Bet the head honchos at WB saw this at knew right away they found their batman.

I'd never clicked the link to your HT before until today, Art, and HOT DAYUM is it gorgeous! I can see why you'd want to make sure you have pristine HD quality to show off in there!

Hey Everyone,

I just picked up this BD at lunch time and noticed on the cover art, it states regular Dolby Digital 5.1 as the audio option. Can anyone confirm if this is true or if it's actually got a DTS-HDMA track (because the cover art also states 2:35:1 AR, but I've heard it's 1:78:1).

If anyone can confirm these 2 things, it would be great. If there's no DTS-HDMA, I'm returning the disc as it's no better than the UK import.

I too picked this up today, yes it does contain a DTS HD-MA track (48kz @ 2.0mbps) along with a Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2 commentary tracks.
The video is indeed 1.78:1 (VC1 encoded) and appears to be cropped at times and other times it almost looks to be opened up a bit at the top and bottom as well (when compared with the old Japanese DTS SD DVD which I've had for quite some time).
The image looks to be quite drained of color (director intended), and grain appears to be intact.
However, I am still less than satisified due to the lack of OAR, but for $17.99, I guess I could live with it until a better version gets released.

No problem.
A couple of things I forgot to mention as well:
- The is also a French 2.0 track, and English subs.
- Also, contrary to the cover, there are no trailers or TV spots that I could find.

Alliance have really become so unreliable, it is now almost a joke!

Thanks for the preview. I own the UK import and it sounds like aside from lossless audio on the Alliance release, the 2 versions are identical when it comes to PQ. I haven't opened my copy of the Alliance release as I may just return it (I don't think having lossless is enough for me to keep it).

I've email Alliance to ask "what gives" in hopes that they arrange a trade in program like they did for Outlander. If they do, I'll keep my copy I just bought.

So, just to confirm, the JP release is uncut, OAR, and has both commentaries; the UK and CA releases are either MAR or lose the commentaries or both, right?

I completely agree and, as one who does not even own the HDDVD I can't wait to get this in Blu-ray. Sadly I don't think I will convince the boss to let me swing the $55 Japanese version but I would imagine even the Canadian version would be far superior to the regular DVD

I can't stand anything that is not OAR. Regardless of PQ, the DVD is still superior then, but that's me. I'll keep my SD DVD until I can get the proper version. I wonder what's the target audience from Alliance's point Still not sure about spending $60+ CAN for the japanese version.

Though it's not perfect, for various reasons, this is my second favorite movie of all time. I spit when I found out the UK BD was not OAR and "found" a copy of the HDDVD in protest.

As no one has heard squat about a US release (it's a freaking US movie!), and the Canadian sounds no better than the UK, I will spring for the Japanese release.

Lossless audio and OAR? yes, please!

I received an e-mail from Amazon.com that Equilibrium is up for pre-order, but I'm not sure if this is a new US release or just the Canadian version being released here. It has a release date of Sept. 15.

OK, I couldn't resist any longer and ordered from Amazon.jp! I also picked up The Crow and 13 Ghosts. Amazon.jp was $6 USD higher on the three blus than hmv.co.jp but since I've never had any issues returning anything to Amazon, (domestic or foreign), I opted for Amazon.

Is the UK / CAN release open matte ? If so (impatient folks), I don't see any point in avoiding the disc unless the scope image is cropped or discernably altered.

Live action scenes are opened, CGI shots are cropped.

Thanks. Did they they open the matte on the Canadian release, or did they remove material from the sides to change the OAR?

Okay, at the risk of being dismissed as a "Stupid American", I note at both Amazon.co.jp and YesAsia.com the release date for this title is 2009-06-03; does that mean June 3rd or March 6th? Neither was a Tuesday (the standard release date for U.S. titles), so I'm not 100% sure...

It was June 3rd If the formatted date starts with the year, it's Y M D. If it ends with the year, then only the US (and a few other countries) use M D Y- everywhere else it's D M Y. That's the one that's confusing for us "stupid Americans".

So this date could legitimately be written:

03-06-2009
06-03-2009
2009-06-03
