A quick round of Googling didn't turn up anything on another BD release, though if it is/was a Chinese release it'd probably end up costing somewhere between the Dutch and Japanese releases to get in the States. (Flip side, if it exists and is OAR...hmmm...)

Probably a bootleg of the Japanese disc, unfortunately.

All right. skimming through these posts I have a general idea of whats out there, but still kinda confused as to which one to get.
I would like a decent quality, preferably not cropped version. Preferably not 2.0.
Also don't want to spend a TON of money.
Can someone maybe give me a nice list of which ones there are, how much they cost, whats good / sucky about them, and where to get them?
Must also be in such a regional format that plays in my american player of course, and have a English no subtitles option.
Thanks!

A modest skim of the past couple of pages would probably give you most of this, but at this point the hierarchy goes:

1. the Japanese BD. Region A (same as the US), original 2.39:1 aspect ratio, BD50, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio.
2. the Dutch BD. Region-free, OAR, BD25, DTS-HD/MA 5.1 audio.
3. the Canadian (Alliance) BD. Cropped to 1.78:1 aspect ratio, DTS-HD/MA 5.1 audio.
4. the UK (Momentum) BD. Region-free (I think), cropped to 1.78:1, BD25, Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.
5. the US (Echo Bridge) BD. Cropped to 1.78:1, DTS-HD/MA 2.0 audio (seriously, huh?).

At last report all the BDs had the same supplementary features (commentary track, etc.) basically lifted from the DVD release, though I could well be wrong about the Dutch one. Ultimately, the one that should be avoided at all costs unless you absolutely have to have this movie in whatever form is the bargain-basement Echo Bridge one.

Does anyone know the best place to get the Dutch BD? Freerecordshop.nl has it not for $17.99 (~$25), which isn't *that* cheap when you add shipping.

Same video encode, by the way, and both are BD25. Same company. And you're right, UK is region free while CA is locked.

nope
i have looked around and found it for a few euros cheeper, but shipping just ended up being more. cheapest place i have found so far is the freerecordshop.nl as well, and it ends up being about $40 by the time you have paid the shipping and all.
If anyone knows of a better place to get it, please do speak up. This makes me sad. Why can't an american company make it well? Are they not allowed to release a better version here b/c someone already made a crappy one or something? Seems kinda silly.
Not everyone out there is going to notice or care about the aspect ratio, but even your noramal people will notice the 2.0 sound.

I am not so sure why there is much interest in the Dutch version. People that have seen both the Japanese and Dutch BDs side-by-side say the Japanese version is far superior in every criteria. Miramax should have never licensed out this movie to Echo Bridge, they have proven they are not a competent distributor for technical quality. All of this discussion would likely be moot if Lionsgate had acquired the rights.

Until Thursday 17 Nov 2011, HMV Japan have Equilibrium (Rebellion) Bluray for ¥4,233 if purchased as part of an order containing 3 complying multibuy items http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/product/detail/3560314. Shipping is reasonable at ¥1,500 for 3 items, making each item ¥4,733 shipped.

Amazon Japan have it for ¥3,720 plus ¥2,000 shipping for 1 item (¥2,600 shipping for 3) as their standard price. If you ordered 3, to make it equivalent to HMV, each item would be ¥4,587.

With the current exchange rate:

Amazon.jp = $59.60 each for 3
HMV.co.jp = $61.50 each for 3
Yesasia = $62 each with free international shipping

Amazon and maybe HMV might be 4% cheaper as they include tax in the advertised prices.

Mind you Amazon JP uses FedEx overnight so it costs more than that...

The proper setting for sharpness is always0.
Also my Oppo BDP-103D is region free.
That makes me awesome.

Hmmm. Anyone know if the 1.78 versions are open matte or simply cropped? If they're open matte then I can crop them to 2.35 on my 21:9 TV.

I'm fairly certain it's a mix (probably fx shots cropped / others opened up), so that might not be too successful.

Such a shame that the J-Blu-ray costs sooooo much. The HD DVD iteration is a thing of beauty, but I can only keep so many obsolete technological formats so it had to go.

The Japanese version is worth it! Great transfer with the correct AR & Lossless audio. I paid about $42 US about a year ago. I was in Tokyo in January & was gonna buy a few to bring back & sell but couldn't find it in stores!
