My reading suggests older dolby digital formats engage DRC with a Phantom center - Is this the case with newer HD codecs?

Dynamic Range Compression... Ruins the peaks in your audio by limiting dynamic range to "protect" the speakers.

This is a good question. I would like to know the answer. Make no mistake though, HD audio codecs can be light years better than Dolby Digital...keyword "can".
