Since I just rediscovered your comment regarding the LFE being "too hot" on the Blu-ray, you might be interested in the thread I started at another forum:
As it seems, sadly, until today there is not a single conpletely flawless release.
As you can see from my screenshot, the LFE from the DTS-HD MA - track is indeed much louder - including the "tinny acoustics", mostly during shootings or explosions.
The Japanese DVD of the longer cut still seems to be the most "natural" one but disappoints a bit when it comes to dynamics during the action scenes. I'm going to take my chances with the Japanese LaserDisc [JVLF-77007~8] now, featuring a Dolby Surround - encoded PCM track.
