Yep. He's my fave. Since getting sober his perfs have calmed down a bit.
(He admits he doesn't even remember shooting "The Scarlet Letter"..! (maybe not a bad thing?)
His high-wire acting without a net perfs back then were thrilling.

Still my fave scene from him...

not the greatest quality but you get the idea

Or the The Contender? Wow, my personal favorite.

He's a dwarf in Tiptoes. You can watch that one for free online. The guy is fearless.

I have an HD version on my DVR from MGMhd.
A little bit better looking than the DVD but not much. Soft and pretty washed out looking.
They really should release it. There are major actors in it.

You do the same thing, huh? I have several movies in HD on my HD-DVR that aren't on Blu yet too (including Lawrence). Problem is that my hard drive it getting full and I can't add any more and still have room to record the occasional TV program.

Need to invest in the Hauppauge

i tried watching the bluray last night and the contrast boosting was so distracting that I couldn't keep going. is there ANY import version of this BD that doesn't have the contrast boosting? i'd even accept an amount of DNR over what happened to this US release

another "special effect" overdone on BD, to make it look like "art" or but looks more like Kitsch

best move for Universal-Stop transferring, mastering.If not for the sake of the films, do it for our planet.-Harris;

Jean Reno - the best I have ever seen him.
Natalie Portman - her 1st role, and her best performance.
Gary Oldman - never topped this.
Danny Aiello - his finest...ever.

Four acting performances of the highest degree.
Without these, the movie would have suffered greatly.

After 15 years, this film's power diminishes not in the slightest.

Agreed. One of my favorite films of all time.

The wife and I watched it recently. It's one of her favorite films. I pointed out the contrast issues to her, but she couldn't see a problem. I found it distracting and very discouraging.

I'm not aware of a better version.

it's so frustrating. as much as i hate EE/DNR, i can still sit through discs most of the time if i love the movie. the missing information/detail in this film is astounding, and it doesn't end up looking like film.

Logically though, when was the last time a Region C release of a Western film got a new, better transfer?

Since some mastermind of admin decided that one needs a post count of at least 15 in order to be send instant messages, I'm forced to bump up a more than 2 years old thread. When do they learn that post counts don't mean anything and quantity doesn't equal quality? *sigh*

Anyway, it might not only interesting for Ruined but others as well so here we go:

Since I just rediscovered your comment regarding the LFE being "too hot" on the Blu-ray, you might be interested in the thread I started at another forum:

http://originaltrilogy.com/FORUM/top...t/topic/16800/

As it seems, sadly, until today there is not a single conpletely flawless release.

As you can see from my screenshot, the LFE from the DTS-HD MA - track is indeed much louder - including the "tinny acoustics", mostly during shootings or explosions.

The Japanese DVD of the longer cut still seems to be the most "natural" one but disappoints a bit when it comes to dynamics during the action scenes. I'm going to take my chances with the Japanese LaserDisc [JVLF-77007~8] now, featuring a Dolby Surround - encoded PCM track.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing more new Supreme Cinema Series Blu-rays. Look for Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element and Léon: The Professional on 10/27. Each is remastered from a new 4K transfer and features Dolby Atmos audio. Each will also include 24-page collector’s books. It looks as if all of the previous Blu-ray extras will carry over (the DVD extras in the case of Fifth Element).

If it's not a BIG screen, it's not a theater...

Thanks for sharing this information! So once again there is new hope for a proper release, and hope does at last as we know.

It could be remastered from a 16K transfer and it would be still of no value if once again some idiot (including the director himself in this case) decides "hey guys, let's boost the contrast and apply some orange & teal color preset", destroying the filmic image once again. I mean, on the Blu-ray releases we already have so far, the video resolution is one of the least problems.

We need proper dynamic range in both video and audio. In the latter case please without that weird tinny acoustics like played through some metal barrel. However the fact alone that they are gonna release it in Dolby Atmos shows already that once again instead of a proper cinematric mix, we get some remix.

And of course, in the year 2015, it's still totally out of the question to just put the original track in addition. Sigh, it's so pathetic ...
