95% percent of the people who say that never actually saw Fern Gully, let alone can magically recall it well enough to make detailed comparisons over a decade later.

It's a bandwagon statement that I've grown tired of.

I'll stick with Dances with Smurfs.

agree
all the lines like "i was a stone cold killer from above" and so on suddenly do make a lot more sense (not that they were really out of place before since you could infer the missing scenes but all the same....)

just saw the SE yesterday, wow I had forgotten just how amazing the 3D was and it really is something to see it on a giant IMAX screen too
had a great time

It's apparent that Cameron just wants to "milk it". In one interview he mentions the $ sign.....I just wish he could stick to his older morals and make something REAL, say like, Terminator, ALIENS, The Abyss, True Lies....Let's forget Titanic

I have to admit, I have not seen this flick in 3D IMAX, but it shouldn't take a movie that far to make it a good one. Don't get me wrong, Avatar stands pretty tall, but when you have to rely on CG for just about EVERYTHING, then you go the way of Lucas. Cameron, please don't go to the dark side of the force!!!

These guys are saying there is nearly 14 hours worth of total content in the collectors edition.

"I'm guessing that's a lot?"

One of the tricks the studios used in the days of DVD promotion, was to include the running time of commentaries in the total duration of extra features.

Are there perhaps 3 commentaries of 3 hours each on this set?

I'm pretty sure they still do that. And not just in promotion, but also on the back of the box. So "three hours of bonus features" turns into one commentary and a couple of five-minute interview clips.

Welcome to Rivendell, Mister Anderson.

Oh right.

Well so far the BBFC have rated 4 hours worth of Special Features for the Collectors Edition and there is probably more to come (no commentaries have been rated yet either)

The upcoming Collector's Edition is getting fuller and fuller

Looks like the 3 cuts of the film that will be available should be:

Theatrical Special Edition - 171 Minutes
New Blu-Ray Special Edition - 178 Minutes (7 minutes added to the 9 from the re-release; see 2nd link)
New Blu-Ray EXTENDED Edition - 192 Minutes (14 minutes added to the 16 previously mentioned; see 3rd link)

Perhaps the theatrical cut is not included? (won't hear me complaining, makes purchasing the original BD less of a waste). There's really no reason it shouldn't be, thanks to branching, but apparently there are only 3 cuts on the Edition, so what I listed makes sense I think.

My daughter's boyfriend bought a Toshiba BDX2250 Blu Ray player this weekend and when they played Avatar it had some strange skips while playing the movie. I read all about the issues with Avatar and many Blu Ray players not being able to play it and needing a firmware update but there is no firmware update for this player. Now what makes it strange is they brought the player and movie to my house and I hooked it up in place of my PS3 and then proceeded to connect to the internet to see if there was an update (they don't have internet yet) and none was found but with the player connected to the internet the movie played flawlessly but once I disconnected the player from the internet back to the same skip in the film.

Any ideas?

I don't know the Toshiba models well, but perhaps there is a setting they set or left at default, telling the player it is connected to the internet? If it keeps looking for the network, the overhead of the constant retries could cause skipping.

See if there is an option in network settings they can disable or set to "not connected".

Unless you really do want all the extra rubbish that BD-Live provides, it might be an idea to disable it and don't connect to the internet.
