Anyone know anything about this version?

Seems to be some sort of repackage since other movies are also being rereleased at the same time. I can't think of a time when Warner actually double dipped on a movie that featured a new/different transfer.

LG 65C6P FW: 04.31.00 | Denon AVR-S930H 5.1.2 | Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II Floorstanding Fronts | CS2 Series Center | Monitor40 Series II Bookshelf Rears | Pioneer SP‑T22A‑LR | eD A2-300 | Oppo UDP-203 | Xbox One S | Panasonic DMP-BDT110 | Chromecast Ultra

LG 55EG9100 | LG 60PK550 | Samsung LN-S4095D | Samsung UBD‑K8500 | Philips BDP7501
Collection: Blu-ray

I'm afraid you're probably right, but they may simply do this quietly and not be doing any actual replacement.

There are plans to reboot the series in 2014, so there must be some confidence here. I'm just surprised they're bothering with it now instead of closer to a new movie being made.

If it is a new transfer, I can only think that it would be the result of Peterson not liking the result of the US BD. Otherwise, the motivation doesn't seem to be there to do anything but simply repackage it - and even that seems odd.

So it's clear that Wolfgang Petersen wasn't involved with the blu-ray release... but he said he was going to watch it in his home theater... Have there been any follow ups with him to see what his thoughts are on the US release?

So far, but I'm holding off until January to see what the new release looks like. If it looks a little more "Dutch", I'll pull the trigger...

Maybe they thought the world was going to end this past December, so they held off getting copies stamped... wink.gif

The real reason is likely more related to my post above about a release closer to the re-boot appearing. I would assume that by the time this hits the shelves, the early teaser trailers will be hitting the screens (assuming the reboot project is still going forward).
