ANOTHER new cut of LAST OF THE MOHICANS? Interesting. Certainly there existed a lot more footage that could've been added to the film than than the "Director's Cut" alterations that we saw before.

Just saw this in a PR release from Fox for "Event titles" coming later 2010.

BLU-RAY DISC
Fox will release a selection of event titles on Blu-ray Disc for the first time. Event titles making their Blu-ray Disc debut in Q3 and Q4 2010 include:

THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS
○ All-new Director's Definitive Cut and interviews with Daniel Day Lewis

● ALIEN ANTHOLOGY
○ All four Alien films digitally restored and available together in a six disc set packed with extras

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (35TH ANNIVERSARY)
○ New special features including live cast re-enactments and RHPS karoake

THE SOUND OF MUSIC (45TH ANNIVERSARY)
○ Digitally restored with 7.1 audio and never before seen interactivity and features

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO & JULIET
○ New high definition transfer and BD Live special features including Live Lookup

MOULIN ROUGE!
○ New high definition transfer and BD Live special features

Hopefully we get the theatrical cut included. Fox has been pretty good about including multiple cuts on their Blu-rays. I guess worst case scenario, I can import the WB release whenever that's released overseas. Their DVD had the theatrical version(and an isolated score to boot).

Digitally restored is not music in my ears, because its to often just DNR and EE.

I like both cuts. And I'm sure I'll like the all-new-Mann-really-really-means-it-this-time-final-directors cut. I'm looking forward to some lossless audio goodness regardless, as the dts track on the Fox DVD is disappointingly harsh.

There has always been talk of a 3-hour MOHICANS -- apparently it ran that long if not longer before he cut it down. Certainly Jodhi May's character doesn't do a whole lot in the existing versions -- I'm guessing her involvement was substantially more in earlier versions.

Will be interesting to see if he does a few "tweaks" here and there with dialogue and shots, as he did with the first "Director's Cut", or if this is a substantial overhaul with cutting room floor material.

I'd prefer the latter myself, because I love the movie but it seems it could be better fleshed out at times -- either way PLEASE include the Theatrical Version as well

There were times in the theatrical cut... even the director's cut... that for me.... felt like something was missing or had been abruptly cut from the film.

Like Tombstone, parts feel incomplete to me, but is a movie I enjoy the hell out of.

I remember being frustrated with this title. Mann's decision to change the score was one item that seemed to kill the magic of the original release.

Agree, when he decided he could do without Clannad's I Will Find You it detracted from the film. As I've said in other threads I don't mind a Director or other alternate versions as long as the original theatrical version is also included or available.

If Fox don't release the theatrical version of Mohicans, I'd bet Warners will internationally.

I admit I haven't seen it in many years, but he cut that song from the movie in later versions?!?!?

The European release (from Warner) has been tentatively announced for November. As far as I know, Warner holds rights only to the theatrical version. That is what was shown on HDTV in Europe.

This has always been one of my favorite films, and it will be a day one purchase on Blu-ray. I wonder what this definitive cut will be all about...

Mann removed the Clannad song because he no longer thought it worked. Yet it was included on this 2007 compilation of music used in Mann's films, which was put together by (the) Mann himself. Maybe, just maybe, the song will be restored for Blu...

Never cared for the Clannad track myself, always thought it was a bit out of place, so was glad when he removed it in the directors cut.

Overall I prefer the directors cut by far, however there are a couple of additions and subtractions that I didn't like. For instance, I don't know why he removed the shot which shows the axe coming out of the back of that chap in the climatic fight.

Also some of the cheesier lines are removed in the DC "...clear it up any?"

I had the LD Box Set of "TRHPS" w/book/gold CD and then picked up the OOP DVD. I love the movie, but I'm happy with the DVD. When you have a large DVD collection, you have to be real chosey when you double/triple dip!

Theater cut was overall best-compared to the version of director's cut that i saw---perhaps this will be different but sometimes less is more, same for Dancing with Wolves as I think it is better to leave the viewer wondering and trying to piece some things together just as in real life, rahter than explain it in every detail on the screen

they can always have a scenes deleted section or just two different releases

best move for Universal-Stop transferring, mastering.If not for the sake of the films, do it for our planet.-Harris;

I preferred the director's cut of LOTM. The Clannad song, while pretty, just didn't fit in the period film. But I do hope all versions available will be included so everyone is happy.

That Celtic song blended perfectly with that pursuit scene, and is one of the few instances where one of a movie's lesser melodies stuck in my head for years after seeing it. I can't believe it was removed. This is perhaps the first time I hold out hope for an original theatrical release instead of a director's cut.

The song uses a bodhran I believe, and what seems to be cellos and violins which accentuate the movement and pursuit, not to mention the fact the chorus and name of the song reflects what Lewis said when they parted. I thought it fit fine as well.

I am Irish, parents from there so I am a bit biased and have listened to and own some Clannad/Enya.
