UK is getting both still.
We got listings for Egg and Standard case on HMV.com and Play.com

plus the announcement said there will be a limited edition egg as well as standard. They cant release only a limited no of eggs and then say thats the only way you can buy it.

I have read it, but it's been a while (I may have to revisit it). While I enjoyed the original novel more, I also thoroughly enjoyed TLW. Maybe my memory is tainted by the trauma of seeing the second film...

Now back to the Alien talk...

I'm determined not to break out the Quadrilogy and watch Alien and Aliens again (IMO, Alien had one of the absolute best transfers to SD I have ever seen, and Aliens has one of the worst. I can't wait to see what they've done on BD), but it's getting harder...

I'm sad that they're going to use another massive accordion digipak for this release. My copy of the Quadrilogy release had the spine off center and four of the plastic trays had to be glued back onto the cardboard.

If it wasn't for the fact that the extras on discs five and six wouldn't be included, I'd wait for the individual movie releases.

Edit: Though.. the picture of the egg release shows a CD case sized digipak accordion that looks nothing like the Blu-ray case sized set in the other picture. Perhaps there will be a cheaper release without the egg after all?

I figured it would be something like that, the MSRP was too close to that of the UK Alien limited egg for it to be anything else. Hoping it is region free now but I'm not counting on it.

are many people here worried about the quality of the egg??

Main thing Im concerned about it DNR. I cant wait until reviews before I buy the egg as it may go OOP. So guess will sell it if it has DNR.

Ripley fought so hard with Hicks to save Newt in the second, and both of them were killed off basically as a footnote in the opening credits of the third. And the little fade sequences they had after the failed explosion attempt in the tunnel seemed to epitomize the "fluff over stuff" of the movie.

The fourth? Ugh...just rancid.

Give me the "twitchy" feeling of the first, and the all-out-action and suspense of the second any day. The first one seemed to do what Jaws did so well. Scaring you by not showing you the monster (shark or alien) too much, thus building up the great suspense via the frightening unknown. The second knew it couldn't do that, so it scared you by giving you lots of those things that scared you in the first, with plenty of action, and the big bad queen to top it off.

I have to agree. I realize the story is about Ripley, but it was a horrible way to start the 3rd movie.

Then again I have wanted them to do a Aliens movie based on the Colonial Marines comic books.

According to this page, both editions will be available for pre-order at Comic Con (though strangely the egg is $10 more than the announced SRP.) Perhaps the regular edition is an exclusive for now.

THX ratings on the first two discs, same as the Quadrilogy, same transfers?

With Ridley Scott apparently getting involved after the Gladiator BD debacle, I wonder if that will set some people's minds at ease regarding the state of (at least) the Alien transfer, as its obvious that Ridley won't put up with a naff representation of his film(s)...?

That would be bad news, indeed. How old are those "Quadrilogy" masters anyway?

Where did that come from? Is there a source? I'd love to hear just why and how this great new master got created.

I can recall a featurette with RS expressing a lot of pride in the work he did with Alien.
It may have been on the Quadrilogy set....

I find it difficult to believe he wouldn't care about the quality of this BD release.

Sorry if this has already been asked but is there an official announcement about the films being released individually?

The point with this boxset is that everyone that just want 1 and 2 also must buy 3 and 4.

I only guessing now, but I do think they will come out as individual movies ones the box stops selling.

There is (was) the D-Theatre release of Alien, which by all accounts was quite good, so the bar has already been set fairly high for the Bluray. I will be very surprised and disappointed if it is not at least as good.

I think there was an opportunity, after the flak from 3 and 4, for those 2 movies to be re-envisioned as hypersleep dreams and for a 5th movie to have saved Newt the way the audience (well, me at least) wanted. However, the studios left it too late and the actor playing Newt would no longer be young enough to participate with continuity.

I don't mind owning all four, its just a lot of money all at once! Any chance the price could drop some before it comes out?

I don't know how much it is being sold for in the US but the Anthology set can be had for about £40 in the UK which works out at only £10 per film which is a great price.

Amazon matches other major outlets on "opening day". It's unlikely the announced MSRP will drop.

why does it say exclusively onsite at Comic-Con booth??
You can order this online.

And "the Guardian" might be the alien hugging the egg.

If its ready then why do we have to wait until October
