I don't know about that. There are quite a large number of releases that I've been waiting to see drop below $20. Some of them have been sitting in my Amazon shopping cart for over a year now.

The UK release better not have player generated titles in any way shape or form, or I'm gonna punch someone in the mouth.

I'm still debating whether to get the collector's tin or the regular release. Does it look to everyone else like the Sports Almanac and licence plate are about the same size as a Blu-ray case?

If that's all the bigger they are I'll probably just get the basic release. Hopefully someone has a deal on it when it's released. Right now it's cheaper to import it from Amazon.co.uk than to buy the US release.

From blu-ray.com:

"During an interview on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Back to the Future, Bob Gale, BTTF creator, producer and co-writer, said he had seen the movie projected days ago and he thought "it looks so good, so much better than it did in 1985", when it opened in theaters."

See... that's the problem. I honestly don't want my catalog titles to look "SO MUCH BETTER" than they did the year they premiered. That's where we get into trouble. I want them to look like the BEST show print possible in that original year. Just my opinion.

Is there any news on single releases of BTTF? Or will we be subjected to a lengthy wait as they try to sell this 3 pack? Contrary to others here I'm only interested in the first movie, didn't much care for the second and hated the third installment.

I agree. We all assume that people who work in film would be dedicated to the fidelity of the original source material, but that's not always the case. Sometimes they feel restricted by the limitations of the time and try to fix "mistakes" that are actually inherent to the source medium.

I have high hopes for BTTF, if only because we got burned before on the DVD, complained, and got replacements, and they probably don't want a repeat of that.

I preordered the UK version because of the collector's tin.

But, if the extras in the UK version are in SD and PAL format, I may have to cancel it and preorder the one from the US instead.

I did a comparison of the BD trailer & the 2003 SD-DVD, the BD looks like a DNR waxfest, just like the Darkman BD. Universal, you used to make reference quality transfers. What happened?

We're judging BD transfers on the basis of 3Mbps Youtube videos now?

What's your source for the BD trailer? Youtube? Please tell me it isn't. I would never take a Youtube video as a serious source when it comes to judging video OR audio quality. If you really think that the Youtube video represents an actual final product, then it may be time for a new hobby. That's just ridiculous.

Saying that the Bluray looks like a DNR waxfest BEFORE having actually seen it really makes me wonder if you're serious.

On a side, I'm anxiously awaiting screen grabs from the Trilogy.

It looks like they degrained the existing master & added slight DNR. You can clearly see it in the closeup shots in the trailer for the BD. The DVD version has more grain, but it looks more natural that way.

I could tell the difference right away, even on a youtube video. I noticed the lack of grain & it looked way too clean, like it's been scrubbed. It's most noticeable on the close up shots of the faces. I will still buy the Blu-Ray anyway, because I love the BTTF movies so much.

You obviously have no clue how YouTube's encoding works. It smooths the crap out of everything to hide blocking, since its 2-3mbps and all.

eric.exe, as I said, I could tell the difference the minute I saw it, even with the bad youtube compression.

I saw the trailer on another website. I prefer the look of the older SD-DVD transfer. If you guys can't see DNR in the trailer, you are blind. Sure it looks cleaner, but they scrubbed away all of the grain.

Are you planning to view the film when it gets re-released in theaters? I for one would love to get your impressions of the PQ.

I've been following this thread a little bit and the last page or so has been excruciating to read.

I remember when someone was complaining in the Evil Dead thread about how a clip from the film looked... from YOUTUBE. "The grain looks digital, you can already tell by this youtube clip. If I can see it looks this way on youtube, it's going to look even worse in high definition!" And whoops, looks like Evil Dead is pretty much THE standard for old horror film transfers/encodes now.

This person that's so high on how Back to the Future looks on youtube should learn a lesson from what's happened in the Evil Dead thread, and understand that Youtube is in NO WAY an ACTUAL representation of what's going to be on the Blu-ray disc.

I expect this to look very good. We don't have too much longer to wait, fortunately.
