This from Universal, is dangerous

Not loving all the extras, wish there was a new real Commentary.

Plus I smell a custom coming as they is nasty:

Well, this quote from bttf.com is promising:

Quote:

We caught up with Bob last weekend at the 2010 DeLorean Car Show in Lexington, Kentucky to get his thoughts on the new Hi-Def transfers of the films. “The HD transfers for all three films are simply breath-taking,” Gale told BTTF.com. “They actually look better than they did in the theater because of the incredible job that was done on dirt clean-up. (And the film grain is preserved, so they still look like movies should look.) And hearing the sound in full dynamic range is — okay, I’ll say it — a blast!”

Well I can't wait.... for the 1st one. Like the upcoming Aliens boxset why do they make us wait 6 months before they release the movies separately. The consumers know they will do it so why bother pretending it's only available as a package deal. The 1st one is a classic, the 2nd and 3rd are pretty much convoluted crap that I have no interest in owning.

They better not pull this crap with Jaws. I know the idiotic 3D phase is back in style yet again but I really have no desire to be forced to buy Jaws 3D for a 3D TV I will never buy.

Yep, I hear ya - yet another "set" I WILL have to wait on for the seperate releases, refuse to buy flicks I don't care for to get one I LOVE. Part one is a must own, the others, eh (I feel the same way about JP). I never morphed into a movie buying junkie like some just because something is now in "HD." I like part I of BttF more than anything else in other series however - so this will be a very TOUGH wait out!

My Setup | Night

Latest Blu-Rays Bought: Brubaker, Star Trek Into Darkness, World War Z, Iron Man 3, Halloween 35th, This is The End, The Conjuring, The World's End, You're Next, Thor 2, Gravity, Noah

I'll keep the hope up as well. I mean, I'm not going to buy it until it's been confirmed - but I'm not going to hang around with a defeatist attitude either.

Great stuff. Wilson's other songs are also hilarious and unabashedly truthful.

If they made new HD transfers, then these will probably be solid. Universal's trouble is that they never remaster anything, not that they screw up things that already look good.

Unless they're porting an HD-DVD to Blu-ray. Then they have no problem screwing up something that already looks good. The most recent example being: Apollo 13.

Hope they did full-tilt audio remixes rather than using a 4.0 Dolby A print master like they have before.

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic about this one, but watch for reviews. Even though the first movie is clearly the class of the field, I do want all of them so I can make an ultimate high-def seamless edit of all three into one giant movie on my media server. I haven't watched the three movies together that way since I did the same edit from LaserDisc onto S-VHS (dating myself badly here).

Movies look their best when they look like movies. More Patton-esque remasters!

Anyways, I can't wait to see how Universal botches up these transfers

Yes, but is it in Universal's density to screw this up? Who knows what master the producers saw... 4k/6k or the final Blu encoding... or both?

If it's the telecine there are still plenty of steps in between that they can botch. Though, if BTTF came out of the same 6k original element scan with 4k color grading and clean-up directly to 1080p Blu encode from Laser Pacific as with SPR and Minority Report...

Then there is a chance these could look excellent.

Good points.

Although I think these will probably turn out well (as I don't think they were too grainy to begin with), there is always the possibility of this studio doing something wrong to them. They have proven this how many times now.

Universal can't **** these up though, can they? I mean really? With the big Berg watching over 'em and all?

I'll remain cautiously optimistic as well thanks to Bob's comments, but I'll wait until it has been confirmed the features are not bit-starved, and that EE, DNR, contrast boosting, and any other artificial "enhancement" has not been applied. Also, Universal is going to have to ditch the BD-live stuff unless the user specifically selects a feature that requires it. (Not even an ad banner at the top of the main screen.)

I am not purchasing ANYTHING anymore that does not represent a good faith best effort to present the movie as faithfully as possible and allow me to watch it hassle free. That includes BTTF, but these are movies that I especially hope they do right.
