Full BD-scan coming up - including bitrates.

As for now, the ultimate comparison smackdown.

Some shots are slightly in motion, so keep that in mind.

It's obviously from the same outdated master though -- could look better still if a new scan was done.

I hate hyperbole, but if you can't spot the difference between these two versions...

Flame all you want but on the shot where Maximus is wearing his helmet I felt it to be more 3D.

From a safe distance it might look like that. It's sharpened and a bit contrast enhanced. It does not hold up at all if you look at the (1080p) detail. The edges have unnatural black and white halos, fine detail is missing everywhere, it looks coarse and screams processed digital video. The new one is full of fine detail, no halos, no digital overprocessed look, quite film like.

There is something wrong with the last scene.

Does it look that way in reality or it's some error while taking a screenshot ?

It looks interlaced if you look at his hand.

Does the soundtrack still have the ES flag?

Compression looks surprisingly competent for such a low bitrate. Warner Brothers could learn a lot from these guys.

They probably used the same disc project files and just swapped out the video tracks

Yep. Paramount release should be higher though because of less dubs.

Assuming that there is an American release. Even if there is, by then those who really wanted this would have bought the Dutch one.

I question the likelihood of this ending up in the U.S.

Universal and Paramount are different studios. There's a lot of talk here about this coming out in the U.S. but are there any cases of other titles in Europe on Universal sharing their transfers with Paramount in the U.S.? I know it is Paramount, but the Universal/Studio Canal T2 transfer didn't end up on Lionsgate's T2 'remastered' Skynet Edition.

It all about who payed for the new transfer. If Paramount was in on it, im sure there will be a US release, but if this was all payed by universal, who knows?

I have to correct one of my earlier shots of Oliver Reed. There is much discussion surrounding it, and rightfully so. It was taken in motion and did not accurately depict the blu-ray, nor the shot-specific comparison.

Here is the more accurate version: (as a gift to some posters at cinefacts.de )

BTW, is there any way I can accurately check the ES on the soundtrack?
Sujay's Avatar Sujay 12:19 PM 07-18-2010
ah that's much better.

Just goes to show that it's imperative to capture the EXACT same frame. I think something similar may have happened here. You can tell from the different position of his thumb on the right that it's not the same frame either, and one particular hair to OUR left of his head suggests there's a bit more motion in the new version screengrab.

No, the BDInfo version you are using would be able to detect it.

If the enormous detail improvement isn't a dead giveaway that it's a new transfer, then the slight framing difference surely is. New transfer or not, I have no idea how you think there's more to improve upon. Every bit of detail is on display here.

every bluray deserves a transfer same like this..
me wonders universal fired the guys who did first one

Hi mate,

Many thanks for the caps, really appreciate it.

Is there any way you can do some grabs of the extended scenes?

Cheers,

Ben.
