I don't see any blocks but keep in mind that you're comparing a png (US) to a jpg (UK).

Even Friedkin wouldn't do this crap to his films - well there is time for him to take notes and ruin one of his films in this way.

I just find it pretty much unwatchable, it does not matter what the reason is, it looks like a garbage noise reduced disc for me.

I'm sorry... I have to chime in on this. I thought this was the house of "director's intent"... is it not???? Doesn't matter if it's inconsistent in the "look" through the duration of the movie. That was how the direct envisioned it and that is his artistic intent.

It's stuff like this that keeps people like me from visiting this place much. This place is filled with DNR snobs, not director's intent snobs!

I'm not saying the blu-ray is bad, I'm saying the movie is ugly

Or multiple personalities, based on the inconsistent nature of using the effect. It's like one personality edited one half the movie and the other identity did the other half...

- It wasn't over the whole movie
- It wasn't even over all the action scenes
- There wasn't even a consistent use of comic panel material to move from story to story - or to even tell back stories other than the Big Daddy/Hit Girl story.

That being said, I don't see where all the venom is coming from. While I noticed it, it didn't take away from the movie. I still enjoyed it despite the flaws.

To say it somehow ruined the movie is silly. Seriously.

And that is the tragedy of it.
Just doesn't make ANY sense...it is illogical.

Agreed.
Never saw it during its Theatrical Release.
The only way I "know it" is the BD...I think it is a terrific movie.

I wouldn't say silly
Is it silly to say Noise Reduction gets on your nerves and can really take you out of a film that you love?
Dark City for instance when I watched it on Blu Ray I found it hard to even get through that disc, it ruined that film for me. If something distracts you all the time, then it is not exactly helping you enjoy the experience like you should.

Still each to their own, there are not many moaning like me on the net about the Kick Ass problem, so I guess I am in the tiny minority. I am banging on about it a bit much maybe (and some of it for a chuckle, not all words from me are serious), but hey it got to me a lot sadly.

Again I will add the Blu Ray is not at fault, so maybe my comments need not even be here I guess the look/style if just easier to spot on a nice HD transfer.

Actually, yes.

A movie I love is one I'll watch on the worst quality SD, with commercial breaks and with snipes thrown up on it.

However, a severely DNRed title (like the latest "Predator") is not one I'll purchase to add to my collection.

The fact is, even with the occasional softening or odd colors, it's still not anything on the scale of Dark City, Patton or Predator. It's more on the scale of "The General", where it's a good movie that allows you to overlook the occasional wash of DNR or EE - and looks good otherwise.

Has anyone seen or have more pics of the uk version? I did a blind buy of this but have not opened it yet. I would hate for it to be like watchmen and the u.k release looking noticeably better, then i would have to sell it.

Judging by those shots, I'd never see a difference while watching (apart from that one glitched frame, that is).

Mike, what's the selection of extras like on the UK disc? My parents adored this movie so if I ever give my US copy to them I'll probably replace it with whichever is a better overall package.

Loved it. Thought the picture was fantastic! Think that the screenshots look fantastic too. 10/10 UK version.

They can make all movies look like this for me. It's not even waxy, don't see a problem.

Genius is an insult to my intelligence!

Its 3 disc 1 BR and the 2 disc DVD edition, it loses the faux 7.1 track extras are:
Over 2 hours of 'Kick-Ass' Extras incuding:
- A New Kind of Super Hero: the making of Kick-Ass (114 mins)
- The Art fo Kick-Ass - exclusive artwork, storyboards and designs.
- Feature Commentary with Director Matthew Vaughn
- It's On: the comic book

Oh ok then. The lack of upmixed 7.1 doesn't bother me one bit, but I did enjoy the fake "BonusView" mode on the Lionsgate disc. I guess it'll be a toss-up if I need to rebuy. I really do wish that the deleted scenes were available somewhere since they sound like they'd be worth watching even just as a separate feature as opposed to being re-inserted into the film.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Hope this is not stepping on Xylons toes
Also don't know if the US disc has the audio description track, but its so damn funny during this scene lol

Now I'm confused. The UK screen earlier in the thread showed the blue shadows being darker on the UK disc, now your shots show them being brighter. Is it the settings in the program you use to get the screens?

Apologies for bringing up an old thread. I just watched the uk version and compared to the american. The uk version while having slightly better bitrate sadly appeared a bit more washed out. Like the gamma or brightness was a bit higher. I dont know if anyone else compared the two and also noticed this? The u.s. release looked washed out to in some scenes I assume directors intent but it seemed much more bothersome on the uk.
