I'm well aware of the cut -- it's a legacy of the weird aversion to head injuries shown by the Ferman-era BBFC (and to a lesser extent under Robin Duval as well). Bloodsport 2 was cut in virtually the exact same fashion and that went out with an 18! Many cuts from the period have been recently waived (e.g. the headbutts in The Matrix, the head-bashing stuff in Fight Club) and I have little doubt it would happen with DM as well.

The German (EURO) BD is out now.
I have the Disc.

Comparison between PAL DVD and Blu Ray:
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comp...9710/picture:0

The DVD sucks badly!!
Blu Ray ist not the best quality but ok and way better than the old DVD.
The Picture is a bit soft and typical for Warner a little DNR.

But i am so happy that i can watch the movie at least in more than watchable Quality. The DVD was horrific for projection.

The Bad Thing for US Viewers is that the BD has only the European Version with Pizza Hut instead of Taco Bell. So the Original Audio Version is re-dubbed to Pizza Hut in certain lines.

BD Info Scan:

This looks like a very nice upgrade from the dvd and the kind of improvement we should expect. Definitely a more recent remaster.

Although it does look like there's a little DNR the screenshots still look quite impressive to me. My DVD copy always looked horrid so this is definitely going on my "to buy" list. Colours look more accurate, detail is quite good though a little soft at times and overall the image looks quite nice.

Couple that image with a great lossless mix and I'll be more than happy. This along with Timecop are my two slightly guilty pleasure sci-fi/actioners from the 90's.

Wait a minute... what happened to all of the grain that is present on the DVD?! The Blu-ray looks massively degrained.

Oh, wait... that's not grain on the DVD

Actually, I thought that these did not exhibit the typical orangification and overdone contrast boosting that catalogs keep getting. It sure is green as heck though. Maybe they are in the matrix this time.

Agreed. I skipped the Alien box set over this, and may skip this one too. If they're gonna teal and orange catalog titles, they can go and shovel it.

I do also, although who is to say that the DVD color timing is correct? Braveheart on DVD had an extremely muted color palette, but the BD had the correct color timing which was very vibrant, almost like the Technicolor features of the golden age of cinema.

The picture looks a bit too de-grained for my taste, but it's a good step up from the open-matte, waxy, low-bitrate HDTV broadcast that I've viewed.

Edit: After comparing the first few screenshots, I think that the BD has been contrast boosted. On the DVD at least (I've never seen this in the theater) the initial scenes with old Los Angeles were very dark and grim looking as everything was cloaked in shadow. This was done to show a visual contrast between the old violent LA and the new "civilized" LA when John Spartan is taken out of cryogenic stasis. From the first comparison shot, you can see that this effect has been lost on the BD.

De-grained nuthin'. Anamorphic movies of this vintage won't yield uber-sharp HD images, or a lot of grain for that matter. More detail can be wrung out, but we're talking 4K scan territory and that ain't gonna happen for a mid-90s catalogue actioner any time soon.

As such, Demolition Man looks fine to me on Blu-ray, although the inevitable teal/orange combo rears its head.

It like all early warner/paramount discs were the old LD masters

I didn't know this was shot anamorphically. When did it become common practice to record with the Super35 process?

Thanks SwissHD for the comparison! You don't happen to own Cobra on BD?

Btw, has Warner moved from VC-1 to AVC?
